First of all, I'm in college and on a meal plan. That means that I can't eat 5-6 meals a day, and it can be difficult to find healthy carbs.

That said, it seems like I will be drinking significantly more this semester, and I am looking for workout routine to keep the extra calories off, while at the same time at least trying to tone my body.. I'm concerned that if I do something along the lines of switching off between cardio and lifting (3 days a week each), that the cardio will negate the benefits of the lifting. Any suggestions?

Make the choice: barring the odd genetic alien, I have yet to see a student who fully indulges in school food (2-3 meals a day, and how many students skip breakfast!?), heavy drinking, latenight partying and all that, and maintain any sort of credible physique.

Yes, there will be a few who can, but if you were one of them you wouldn't be asking for advice here.

Keeping the fat off maybe, but trying to 'tone up' as well? Forget it mate!

Either live the student lifestyle to the full or live healthily. If you can find a middle ground more power to you, I never could.

If I can't have it both ways, what modifications would you suggest to the schedule I proposed? Would the weight lifting result in any benefit, or would it bette be replaced by more cardio? I don't need to lose weight, just keep any possible new weight off.

Without knowing you, your stats/bf or your metabolism I can't really say.

Do 3 cardio/3 weights per week and see what happens.. trial and error here.
