Don Juan
I'm 6'1", and about 190 lbs. I don't have much muscle on me - if you took out about 20 lbs of fat, I'd be skinny. I want to work towards a Bruce Lee body type (lean and muscular, but not bulky). I'm not saying my goal is to have a body as good as his, just that body type.
What sort of training program would you recommend for this? I imagine that power lifting would add bulk, so I'll probably want to avoid that. I also want to have some cardio because I'm in overall bad shape right now.
Below is what I'm thinking of. All weights exercises are 3 sets of 10. Let me know what you think.
Mon - Fri: abs - several unweighted exercises I got from Schwarzenegger's Encyclopedia of Modern bodybuilding. They alternate upper/lower abs and different parts of the obliques each day.
Mon/Thurs: legs/back - leg press, leg extension, calf raises, seated cable row, bent over row, lat pull down.
Tues/Fri: arms/chest - dumbell pectoral flyes (bench press instead if there is someone around to spot me), deltoid flyes, bicep curls, backward tricep flyes, forearm curls, shoulder shrugs.
Wed: cardio day - practicing karate and 30 min stationary bike or jog on treadmill.
I'm not going to make many changes to my diet. Basically I'll eliminate all junk foods except beer and try to only eat at meal times. I'll also make sure I eat breakfast every day.
