Do the muscles in your neck grow as you gain bulk in the gym, or do you actually have to work them out seperately? On the exercise chart in my gym there's weight exercises for your neck but this chart looks old and I'm thinking strapping a lot of weight to your neck isn't safe (my sister and my mom both suffer from whiplash, so maybe I'm being paranoid 'cause of that).

I've never actually seen anyone exercising their neck, anyway.

Im no expert but there are special workouts that focus on the neck. I dont know the routines but im sure one of the guys here is bound to. A strong neck is vital in openwheel racing esp. Formula 1 to combat g forces, they have developed special workouts and even neck strengthening machines (if my memory is correct).

get yourself a neck harness, they're like 10 bux, straps to your head, and start off with light weight cuz neck is easy to injure, and it'll grow over time, but if you train it dirrectly it'll grow big, i wanna have a huge neck, like cant put your shirt on typa ****, peace

I already do shrugs as part of my back routine, like once a week or so. I guess I'll bump it up to 2x a week.

But if I just mostly ignore my neck, I'm not gonna get left with, say, a really buff body and a jutting adam's apple, am I? That's my only real worry. I've only been doing weights for about a month so I've only seen a bit of growth so far, so I honestly can't tell.

So let me repeat the main question, just to be clear: if I just mostly ignore my neck, will it grow by itself as my other muscles grow?

I had a visible adam's apple before I started working out and a long neck because i was so skinny. I've put on a lot of weight (muscle) in the past year and my neck has thickenned a LOT (adam's apple no longer sticks out). My neck is also not as long and skinny in appearance because I've done shrugs to build my traps up.
