well here's how my phone convo for setting up the date went.
it's my first time talking to someone i dont really know well over the phone, and it is fairly short.

girl:hello?
Me:hey (girl's name) !! It's kevin.
girl:hey
me:I'll be down in the lakes sunday, so we should chill then.
girl:sure
me: ok, cool. well i gotta go, later.
girl:bye

i kinda felt like i acted a little weird, what do you guys think? any improvements that could be made?

Idk, based on what you wrote it doesn't seem much like anything, let alone like an actual date. No set time, no set place...
You know not meaning to burst your bubble, I wouldn't be surprised if she tells you she's busy when the time finally comes around.

I don't want to state the obvious but right after she said "sure" I would have said "ok great 6:00 we can do this or this."
Let her pick and feel like she's in control and then if you want you can say I gotta go.

Whatever happens it's only one girl and be sure to let us know how it goes.

you should set up details otherwise its easy to flake

also to make the conversation less awkward try opening with an opinion opener.

say something like "hey my friend's gf's birthday is coming up tomorrow so I need a girl's advice real quick. [ask something a girl would know better]"

then casually work into the conversation that you are going to the lake
