My friends, my friends, my friends.

No one gives a sh1t about your friends. Everyone always has "friends" that accomplish fvcking amazing things, but I never meet them. Where are these mythical friends that can pull trucks with their teeth and lose 20 lbs in 4 days with no cardio and eat 80g of protein a day?

I just had a co-worker come in here and tell me that I don't show any progress from all the eating and lifting I do.

Nevermind that I gained 30 lbs and girls oo and ah over my back, shoulders, and arms.
Nevermind that I've taken off 20 lbs of fat while gaining a bunch of strength in the past 2 months after coming off a knee dislocation where i could barely walk for a month.
Nevermind my max weights from a year ago I can move without an effort in the course of a warmup.

But "his friends" - they do crazy ass high volume workouts like him and they're "huge." Too bad when they stop their poor little muscles will shrink back down.

What the hell is wrong with people just walking up to you and giving you unsolicited opinions? Then they ask you something and then want to argue about it. WHY DID YOU ASK if you were just going to argue it?

To hell with it. I'm just going to keep deadlifting and squatting and having real power and they can keep on working out 7 days a week and doing 4 bicep exercises a day and 16 sets of half benches so they can show off their swelling.

Sh1t, i have cow to eat.

Sounds like they're fishing for your attention, even in the form of an argument. Perhaps their respect for you and your ways comes not from their mouth and words, but from their actions.

How are they arguing? Some will argue to confront and re-examine any false preexisting concepts they had about lifting.

It's all in your head. There is no way that missing 1 day in the gym could make you weaker, now say if you miss 1 here,1 there and 1 other over there, then that could be an issue.

Everyone always argues by throwing up the one counter-example as if this is a truth table math class where we're proving geometric principles. "I intend to disprove your decades long truth about muscle growth by contradiction. First, Assume that the proposition that for all x, P(x) is true..."

"My friend is swole and he eats cupcakes all day!"

The funny thing is that I go around town and i'm about the only in shape guy I ever see. All the big, strong guys are big AND fat and all the smaller athletic guys are just 150 lbs of skinny. Where are these giants at 9% body fat who barely do anything and swell to super-human proportions in 2 months never doing a deadlift that everyone knows?

Use your imagination and you'll see them. All those people are referring to their imaginary friends.

Next time someone argues with you. Don't argue back, just agree with them sarcastically. Be like "Dam, no wonder I'm so small and fat" then go back to your lifting.

Dont sweat it, I gained 60lbs without any real compliments or encouragement.

I wouldnt know about this whole 'my friend' scenario, since I dont talk care to talk to anyone about this stuff (or any stuff, really) except on these kinds of forums, which are hardly reliable.

This was the best line: "What the hell is wrong with people just walking up to you and giving you unsolicited opinions?"

Oh Lordie do I know what you mean. I often go out of my way to mind my own business, avoid eye contact and conversation with people, yet they still feel the need to provide their uninformed, slack-jawed inputs. When I started lifting and eating, most of the gains came in my legs and hips where noone notices, this one 145lb azzhole kept saying 'This guy eats like a horse, but look at him, hes smaller than me!'

The only way I've found to combat this is simply not say anything at all, keep conversation basic and based on the newspaper or sports or something. Never comment on your eating or weightlifting, simply avoid the topic entirely. If they bring it up, be humble about it and change the topic immediately.

I generally agree with your comments, but your emotion in the post seemed to indicate it hit a nerve, like it really bothered you. Ill assume this is the same guy who only goes halfway on bench press, so fuk em. Dont give him any advice, in fact, you can encourage him and tell him to keep up the sh!t workouts, inflate his ego to gargantuan proprtions, and then laugh while he falls into a downward spiral of alcoholism and manic depression. Or just poo in his mailbox, that usually works as well.
