Hey my friend suggested muscle milk to me. I think it might not be right for me though.

I'm on my second carton of it and I was 155 when I started taking it, before and after workouts. Now I'm 166 and I noticed a bit more tone in my chest area but mainly I see more fat in my belly. Like as I sit I just see I'm fatter.

Should I stop taking this and try a whey/protein shake instead?

Nutritionally muscle milk is closer to a weight gainer than a protein supplement.

Mix a little with regular whey to get the flavour :D

what is your training like?
Alex's post is correct in that it's more of a weight gain shake rather than PURE PROTEIN for LEAN GAINS.
Also, look into TURKEY BACON and EGG WHITES.

That last line is a joke, by the way.

I take it before and after my workout, in which I do sets and regression on the majority of the leg/arm machines at the gym. Then I usually do 10-15 minutes on the eliptical and I also swim about 20 laps before going home.

However I've gained 12 pounds since I started this stuff, and while I do have better posture and a little more body tone I mainly noticed just fat in my belly when I'm sitting.

I seriously doubt the Muscle Milk alone is forming belly fat on you.
You need to be consuming a lot of calories to actually see fat deposits grow.
And two shakes a day is not enough to actually put on belly fat unless you're eating like a pig throughout the day.
What is your actual meal plan consisting of?
Are you keeping track of how much protein you're supposed to be getting?
Are you eating huge meals or divided smaller meals throughout the day?

Muscle milk does not make you fat.

Eating too many calories and not enough exercise makes you fat.

Don't eat before you work out. You want the blood to go to your muscles, not your gut to break down nutrients. Best time is after.

Your workout also sounds weak. Leg and arm machines? How about some compound exercises. You're not doing enough exercise for the calories taken in. You're also not getting as 'toned' as you could be by doing only arms. Big arms come with a big chest, which comes with a big back, which comes with big legs.... etc. See the pattern?

I see...well thanks for all the help.

Also I noticed that I have had a much larger appetite since I began using the muscle milk. And while I've gained 12 pounds, some of it may be muscle, although I notice a lot of belly fat.

Maybe I will also make my workout more intense, following Alle Gory's advice.

I did bulk up somewhat I'm just complaining about the sudden look of belly fat.

muscle milk isn't gonna increase your appetite. the training did that.

it's normal to gain SOME fat when you're bulking up (unless you wanna gain 3lbs a year), but if you get sloppy fat then you're eating too many carbs or calories or both.

Maybe it's just me, but I do notice a little more fat. I started using muscle milk when I was 155, now I'm 167. I'm 6 foot 3. My chest is more toned, but I just notice a little more fat in the stomach, that's all. My calorie intake hasn't increased drastically, other than the muscle milk. I take in more meals though, although each one is smaller. (I started doing that because I noticed I was feeling hungry faster. Eating breakfast at 7AM I'd be ready for lunch by 10:30 so I'd have a Yogurt or something to hold me over)

two servings of muscle milk adds about 700 calories a day, which can qualify as a 'drastic' increase - but at 167 and 6'3" the last thing I'd be worrying about is belly fat. some of it is water and food bloat of course.

6ft 3 and 167....

Dont worry about getting fat for a while lmao!

I'm 153 and 5ft 6, and I'm cutting down to 145 which will put me at around 8% bf.
