Hey.
I'd post this in the high school forum, but it's geared more towards college, so I'm sure most of the people browsing that section are still in high school and haven't dealt with this yet.

I'm a senior going with Early Graduation. I may start college like five days after I graduate (not entirely sure). I'm not sure how to go about meeting people. Obviously my old high school friends are gonna be off in school still during the day time, and have just some different schedules than me. Besides, they say your "true" friends you hang with your whole life are never your high school buds.

So, in a new town, new college and new people. Where would be some good places to approach people. What's a decent way of doing it? May sound dumb, but I've never had to do it before. I've always just had my high school friends.

"Alpha" Male is something you hear a lot on these boards. If I'm 17 in college with a ton of 18-22 year olds, I'm mostly just gonna be the little **** unfortunately. All though I am mature. I'll be 18 soon, and might even wait til then before starting college. Either way though I'm still graduating early and will be seeing less of my high school friends and am gonna have to move on and meet people elsewhere.

Anyone who's really gone through something like this before, I can definitely use some feedback.

Thanks to all.

---- any other tips are welcome

You'll do fine.

Some tips:

Be open: if that means having your dorm door open, leaving for class a couple minutes earlier to talk to people, meeting your neighbors, stuff like that. Be talkative, don't clam up around new people, try to get in the conversation and jump on quiet spots.

Be assertive: If you want to go to a party, find the people to go with, don't wait for them to come to you.

And most importantly

Have fun: This is the best time of your live, it's not super important that you mean hundreds of people, just have fun with what you got, but remember to be open to other people.

As for being 17: It's only a problem if you make it a problem, I look much younger then I am but I never let it bother me. I've accepted that fact and can joke about it. You're as old as you portray yourself to be.

:)

Cheers mate

Yours is not a new question. Do a search.
