I think a big problem is also analyzing it too much, I don't think most "real manly men" are sitting around pondering about guys being too nice, or guys being jerks etc.
This website has a lot of good info about overall confidence, but let's face it, look back to high school/college... i doubt most of the popular guys that were out with women every weekend would be spending their free time posting on internet message boards. I knew a few of these "cool guys" and they would use the internet about twice a year at most.
It's not about being nice or being an ass etc., you are who you are, it's about being your true self and living without fear. I was like that in high school and then mellowed out for a while (no clue why), but back in high school... man i didn't need to be reading some book about laws of power/seduction etc..
I wasn't the coolest or hippest guy in the world but i wasn't afraid to grab some chicks ass or feel her up, or if she was a bit more reserved simply joke around about how I wanted to have sex with her... that was just me, i didn't even mean it but I like to have fun and joke around, and i just did it without thinking. My goal was never too impress anyone, I wasn't trying to get laid, hell i didn't even have a car so dates were limited and not a priority.
Point is there were no worries back then, i didn't have to come look at some website to analyze if what I was doing was "alpha" or not. WTF man, I shopped at wal-mart, had a face full of zits and still had a blast just being me.
