New research says guys who get meds for erectile dysfunction have an 18% lower chance of getting Alzheimer's within five years. This is the second study in a while to link drugs like Viagra and Cialis with a lower risk of Alzheimer's, but there's another study saying there's no connection. Some experts are saying, "Hey, hold up!" They're cautioning against jumping to conclusions about these drugs being an Alzheimer's cure. But the researchers say it's still worth looking into whether these drugs could be repurposed to treat Alzheimer's. The study's lead, Ruth Brauer, thinks the findings are promising, but she's saying we need more research before we start prescribing these drugs to everyone as an Alzheimer's prevention measure. The study got published in Neurology on February 7th.
