By pretending to be black :crackup:. Mindy "Kaling" as most know is the fat Indian girl on the tv show The Office and now has her own show the Mindy Project. Well he is as black as some American blacks and his family did live in Africa at one time lol. If I could just claim I'm Amerindian for special treatment .

But wait, isn't Indian a protected class of race just like black? Yes. I guess not all protected classes even of the same class are equal .

The family of actress Mindy Kaling, real name Vera Chokalingam, were Indians who moved to Nigeria during British colonial rule. After the British were forced to withdraw, and the Nigerian economy and infrastructure collapsed, the family moved to America.

Mindy’s brother Vijay Chokalingam was accepted by the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1999, despite the fact that he lacked the grades. He did this by shaving his head and pretending to be a black (sub-Saharan African) man.

“In my junior year of college, I realized that I didn’t have the grades or test scores to get into medical school, at least not as an Indian-American. Still, I was determined to become a doctor and I knew that admission standards for certain minorities under affirmative action were, let’s say… less stringent? Now Vijay Cokalingam is writing a book titled Almost Black – The True Story Of An Indian American Who Got Into Medical School Pretending To Be An African American. Cokalingam says he opposes Affirmative Action.

Numerous left-wing websites are already denouncing Cokalingam in advance for the book. Mindy Kaling has already denounced the future book as well. She says “it will bring shame on our family.”

Had he applied to the same school, been rejected as Indian but accepted as Black, that might be worth discussing. But he didn't. So Mindy's brother merely created a strawman in order to burn it down without proving the point he was trying to make.

So he's someone who couldn't hack it in the medical world...made an assumption that lying on his application would benefit him without even trying to be honest first. And now he's a resume writer who advises people to be honest in their job applications?

What a joker. That all said, a B average isnt terrible. Its good, but not great. Though he did end up flunking out of med school.

Here's what went wrong:

He didn't apply to the same schools before he started pretending to be black, so we don't have any way to compare the experience of "JoJo" — the name he used when he was pretending to be African American — to his own experience.

In any case, he was only admitted to one school after applying to more than 20 — not exactly making the case that things were easy for his black alter ego.

As Gawker's Brendan O'Connor points out, the crux of his "affirmative action discrimination" argument seems to be that he was "invited to apply" to several schools when he was posing as a black man. Again, we don't know whether he would have been invited if he hadn't been pretending to be black, because he didn't seem to measure this.

And even if he had been able to prove that schools were more likely to invite black applicants, that wouldn't tell us much about the role of race in the admissions process. Invitations are not required to apply. Plus this is a step that takes place before the actual admissions process, likely to diversify the applicant pool. Even if Chokal-Ingam thinks that type of targeted outreach is unfair, it really has no bearing on debates about affirmative action.

Further muddling his attempted gotcha moment, he admits that at least one of these invitations to apply — the one from Harvard — was from a family friend who knew he was not black. He writes at his website, "Unfortunately, I have long since lost the original letter from Alvin F. Poussaint, MD, (the father of one of my sister's closest friends) inviting me to apply to the school based on my 'superior' MCAT score. I dropped my application to Harvard, fearing that Alvin would expose me as not black." So he can't even argue that all of the invitations that he was so disturbed by were inspired by his fake race.

As a bonus strike against his "things were so easy when I was black" argument, after dropping out of the one medical school that accepted him, he was admitted to UCLA's MBA program, using his real name and racial identity. (Does he think he was admitted because he was Indian American? Or because he was male? Or because of some other factor? We will never know.)

Since when is a 5% success rate into med school any evidence of race preference helping out?

I became a serious contender at some of the greatest medical schools in America, including Harvard, Wash U, UPenn, Case Western, and Columbia. In all, I interviewed at eleven prestigious medical schools in 9 major cities across America, while posing a black man.

Not bad for a kid with a 3.1 College GPA, heh

He was wealthy and a 3.1 wouldn't get a non-black or non-Hispanic male consideration for many undergrad programs let alone consideration at prestigious medical schools.

The bigger problem I have with affirmative action is it's not applied when whites or males are underrepresented. Magically Hispanics and jews get to fill in for whites. When Asians and jews are overrepresented and squeeze whites out from the top, and affirmative action blacks and Hispanics squeeze whites out from the bottom, no cares that whites are underrepresented and affirmative action doesn't apply in their favor.

1. He never applied to the same schools with his real name or ethnicity. So how can you or he claim that his real name or ethnicity wouldnt have got him into med school?

2. He was accepted into 1 out of 20 schools. How is 5% acceptance rate showing that blacks have it so good?

3. He was admitted to the UCLA MBA program with his real name and ethnicity. So what is there to make of his racial claims?

4. The loser flunked out of med school.

That's just liberal spin. You have to have a GPA above 3.6 and a high MCAT to get consideration and acceptance into medical school unless you're an affirmative action beneficiary.

No not really. White women have better grades and test scores than the other special "minorities". White women get denied too to make room for certain men and women of the right ethnic groups. Affirmative action as applied harms all whites (and some argue E. Asians), just it harms males the most.

The real dirty is in financial aid, where schools jack up tuition high enough to have a situation where full-boat paying white males and Asians subsidize lots of FREE or near free diplomas for the "favored skin, favored genitals" crowd.

One of my female friends in law school and after was from one of the most influential black political families in the country, black female multimillionaire?... 0 tuition. Middle class white guy me? ...Full tuition. You don't see this particular scam until long enough in to compare notes with friends and find out the truth. Who knows how many tens of billions of welfare equivalent this represents? By the time truth outs, it's too late to drop the paid in opportunity cost.

Unless you get in a top ten program, avoid private professional schools and MBA programs like the plague or be the AA machine's btch.

And there's even AA in the grading/passing and even course requirements to fulfill the diploma. And AA in internships, and AA action in employing and retaining etc.

According to the government we have not just protected classes but also classes within the classes :cheer: . Protected class: race=blacks at the top, then other "people of color", whites at the bottom; sex=females at the top, males at the bottom; national origin= foreigners and 3rd worlders at the top, westerns and Americans at the bottom; (soon) sexual orientation=gays at the top, straights at the bottom; religion: Muslims at the top, Christians at the bottom etc.

And we have "rights" like free speech as long as it's politically correct and freedom of religion that gays and atheist are allowed to infringe on etc.

It's all a big joke. The government has institutionalized discrimination which it claims it prevents.
