So I meet a new girl, and she says she wants to get together. However, in her email, it's clear she wants to push an MLM. It isn't Amway, but close.

Should I just forget about her and move on, or is there hope? We seem to have hit it off, but that could have been her "sales mode" to get me as a potential MLM prospect.

Ideas?

You know the answer.

This is not much different than the overly friendly bartender or stripper.

Those MLMers, aka Pyramid Schemers, are so desperate for sales (and bringing you "on board") that they'll do anything to get you to listen to their sales pitch.

Jodie Arias was a shill for Prepaid Legal, another pyramid scheme. 'Nuff said.

That's a cheap way to try and get you to do business with her. Then again the overwhelming majority of MLMers are pretty lame and cheesy as hell. I wouldn't go as far as to calling them a pyramid scheme because they are NOT. MLM is just another way of doing business and no I'm not involved in any. The business model doesn't work for about 90% of people but then again getting into any kind of business is always a risk.

The law defines pyramid scheme as one which does not have a legitimate product to sell. That's why the most popular MLMs deal with products where they can exaggerate the value, like vitamins and cosmetics.

It is worthy to mention in this disussion, and I've said this before, the "con" in con man is short for confidence. If you want to scam someone, the more you build their confidence, the easier they are to scam. A good scam will always make the victim feel like he is the one doing the scamming. For example, lying to a gold-digger about being rich makes her think she's about to scam the guy, but he is the one scamming his way into her pants.

I think it would be hilarious to listen to her spiel, sound excited, and tell her "you and I are going to build an empire together!" Then fvck her and never call again.

While technically MLMs aren't pure pyramid schemes (thanks to the FTC's demand that they sell something), they're about as close to one as you can get without actually being illegal. The vast majority of MLM "business owners" lose money. Only the founders of an MLM really make any significant money from them.

That's only partially correct. If a pyramid scheme does sell any products there is no real market demand for them. Since these products won't sell then money made in pyramid schemes can only be made through "recruitment" of other people. This means that in a pyramid scheme the only ones to make any money are those who join early. In other words those who are closer to the top of the pyramid. The scheme will eventually collapse due to saturation because the potential to recruit new members eventually runs dry. What separates MLMs is that they choose to sell products (products that actually sell) through different marketing methods instead of spending huge sums of money on advertisements.

While it is true that the overwhelming majority of people make little to no money in MLM (I think that FTC statistics say over 90% :nervous: ) the same can also be said about most businesses outside of MLM. The overwhelming majority of start up businesses fail as well within several years.

Also if you analyze the payment structure to MLM businesses you can see that you can join the company years after someone who is making more money than yourself and actually surpass them.

What keeps me out of MLM is their manipulative, cheesy recruitment tactics and highly priced products. I actually like Amway products and IMHO they work better then their in-store counter parts but I'm not going to destroy my wallet for them. I also disagree with all the hype and cult-like mentality people in these types of businesses have.

If anything comes close to the definition of a pyramid scheme or maybe even a ponzi scheme just take a look at the world economy.
