Any of you guys meditate ?

I heard good words about it and i really want to start meditating.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me ? Im not looking for a 300 page book to read or anything like that. Im just looking for the most basic information that i MUST know in order to meditate correctly.

I also found these videos on YouTube.

Are they legit ????????

I meditate. I do it at night as I lay in bed. I simply visualize and focus on certain things.

It's an excellent way to gain experience and practice without actually doing (though it does take a lot of power to concentrate.)

I've read studies in the past about basketball players visualizing free throws in this manner and becoming as accurate as those who only practiced. Same with bench pressing.

I don't know how valid it is but it works for me. I'm usually ahead of my peers and I attribute alot of that success to this meditation.

I can't explain how to do it. I just focus hard and imagine I'm watching a movie of me in some situation. At the same time I'm watching me I'm also being me.

For me it's not so much about picturing the details as it is for developing the mindset of the situation.

Then when I am in the actual situation, I revert back to this state and it's as if I'm reliving the experience.

So its like you're playing a first person videogame, with third person parts?? That's what I understand.

For me it's not so much about picturing the details as it is for developing the mindset of the situation.

Please explain further with details. I want to know more about what you mean by developing mindset. You mean running through the situation and feeling it out??

And how is it that you revert back to this state? How many times do you run through the same situation and what situations do you 'practice'??

Also, alot of times whenever I meditate I do it to relax and shut down thoughts and emotions. I just blank out everything inside. Useful or not? I've been seeing benefits like more self-control, but I'm always looking for a better way of doing things.

Never really got round to examining the idea of meditation :p What is it suppose to do for you? some spiritual thing? Other than to be more relaxed I don't really see the point. But I don't want to be ignorant, so enlighten me with all the uses and benefits :p

Yeah man , i visualize too sometimes. Its great way of convincing your brain that you can do something. I used to write some posts about this and how it works. Basically , your brain/body , never gives the full potential on achieving something that you think you cannot achieve. By visualizing , you make your brain believe that you can achieve it. And when times come to take action , your brain permits body to use the full potential.

Its great exercise but this is not meditation. Im talking about being totally in trance , not thinking anything and totally relaxed.

@Alle Gory

Just close your eyes and imagine that you are doing it right now. Lets take for an example a pickup.

You imagine like you're getting inside a club now with a smile in your face. You see a two set and open it immediately. They respond positively. They start qualifying ... and so on. Imagine the perfect pick up. Every detail. Imagine like you're really good at talking to womens and imagine that they are enjoying the conversation as much as you are. This is where you convince your brain that you're good and your confidence goes up.

But i cannot say that it helped me because i havent been doing this regularly. And i did just some times for sh1t and giggles.

Care to share some tips ?

@ Howardgrif
It will make you more relaxed. Makes you find happiness within yourself and not seek it in others. I don't actually know why you need it but i know that it has a lot of benefits.

I watched this video yesterdays.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0rSmxsVHPE

I think i experienced it.

It was 4am and it was very quiet. I sat as instructed and kept listening only to the voice of the track on my headphones.

I had a feeling i cannot explain. I was deep into the trance not feeling anything , not thinking anything. It was like im outside my body. Try it.

It's ok for people to mention once in a while that they have a book or a website or something to sell as long as they don't hawk their product in every post.

Thanks Alle for keeping an eye on the board

Daddy , okay. I see what you mean.
I remember reading meditation books when I was younger but I never had the discipline to really do it.

I'm going to check out those videos though because this stuff is cool.

Alle Gory, it's hard to explain the way I focus on myself. I really don't think it's too important though.

The important thing to do is focus on actually seeing (or being) yourself in a certain situation.

For example, before a job interview, do this visualization. Imagine yourself walking into the building. Listen to the breeze as you walk up the steps. Notice your reflection in the door. Feel the weight of the door as you open it. Keep this process up until you get in the chair where you are being asked questions.

See your body language and how you sit confindently. Hear how you answer the questions so cooly and calmy. Go all the way until you shake the guys hand and walk out knowing you got the job.

Then when you actually (in real life) get in this situation you revert back to these feeling and it's as if this is your second (or millionth) time around.

(This is how I've gotten every job I've applied for including the one I work now which I was underqualified for.)

It works for all mental and physical situations.

I really started doing this technique before I went to war for the first time. I couldn't help but picture myself in all these crazy situations. Focusing on these scenarios in my mind made them feel some how normal as they became reality.

I've also used this technique to maintain a high GPA as an engineering undergrad. I'd do the process described above only it would be for test day and I'd feel how easy the answers fell from my brain. This is one reason why I would always be 1st or 2nd in the class.

This type of visualization (what I did consider meditation) is so effective once you get good at it.
