Medication(s) that will make me gain weight.

Not only do I suffer from Crohn's Disease (inflammatory bowel disease), I'm naturally a slim person. I'm too embarrassed to say my weight, but I'm TRULY not happy with it. Although this chick at my job thought I weighed 30lbs more than my actual weight, and her husband guessed 20lbs above my actual weight... it's obvious I don't appear really skinny. I'm far from weak or bony because I do work out so my biceps and shoulders and chest look okay. I need some weight in my trunk and thighs.

Anyway, people recommend those protein and/or high calorie drinks which may work for some people. But I either a) can't stand the taste (tastes very "chalky") or b) it just doesn't work.

There are tons of medications out there that can "help" with health problems we all face, but are there any specifically for weight gain? There has to be some kind of meds that will slow down my metabolism or something so I can add some weight. If I can gain 20lbs, I'd feel so much better about myself... although I'd like to be 40lbs heavier.

If there's no specific medication for weight gain, what medications have weight gain side effects? Maybe I can pretend to have some other health problem to get some meds that'll make me gain weight.

I am looking for some advice on the best tasting (preferably chocolate) high calorie drink (1000+ calories) that will add some weight to my bones. It'll be nice to talk with some other people that have an inflammatory bowel disease who were able to successfully gain weight.

I don't know if red meat and whole eggs will qualify as medication, but they will surely add meat to your bones.

Out of curiosity, what does your inflammatory bowel disease have to do with wanting to gain weight? I don't know if it limits you from certain foods or not.

IBD often causes diarrhea and inflammation of the gut. As you know, the intestines is where most nutrients are absorbed. So, since I have IBD, during major flare-ups... nutrients aren't properly being absorbed and I have diarrhea which rids my body of the nutrients I do have.

I had a severe flare-up a couple months ago and I'm having a hard time getting back to my normal (but still skinny) weight. I used to weigh 145 - 150 (with my IBD in remission), but now I'm 130lbs. I HATE how I look. Even though I'm in remission, I'm just not gaining weight.

I know side effects of some medications is weight gain, and I'm so desperate that I am willing to try a medication just for that side effect.

I'm thinking about just stuffing my face with everything I can find, even if I'm not hungry. That has to make my body gain weight. IBD also causes loss of appetite.

It's a crappy disorder... :cuss:

In hell. I'm Satan's lover.
Weight gain via medication is usually the descreasing of the basal metabolic rate (the other is hormonal and usually involves an increase in appetite.) In layman's the BMR is basically the energy used up while at you're not doing anything and the temperature is comfortable. Thus, it's energy used by organs and such. Changing it drastically can have...implications for both the nervous and cardiovascular system. I would not do this.

I would say hit the gym, and eat more especially for you. Creatine mono-hydrate can usually add a couple pounds and will make your workouts more effective. If you find a meal replacement thing with a good ratio of protein/fat/carbs then get that too and use it to help get at least 6 meals a day. Also you should also talk to your GP as suggested, he could easily refer you to someone who can help you out.
