So, for the time being at least, I'm working independantly and tend to migrate to a coffee shop Mon-Fri to get my work done. Awesome atmosphere, right by the local university campus (lots of girls to practice my DJ skills on ;) ), and the coffee's great.

However, I'm working hard at getting myself in better shape and that 8 - 10 hour period with only one meal worked in isn't really cutting it. I can't afford to buy too many meals from the coffee shop though, so I'm thinking meal replacement bars are the way to go. Went down to the local grocery store to see the wares, and was dumbfounded when I realized that most of the 'meal replacement bars' are littler more than sugar and saturated fats.

I'd rather buy in bulk anyway, so if anyone's got some reccomendations I'm all for hearing them.

protein bars cost $$$. 12pcs here in Oz costs about 50$ AU. I wouldn't recommend buying those unless you have cash to spare. I usually bring along some protein shake in a thermos. It keeps it nice and cool.

woo... damn, yeah I just quit my job with nothing lined up, and while I'm still on for another month and a half, I'm not looking to run my credit into the ground any deeper than it already is.

I don't mind carrying a protein shake with me, but it's not really a meal replacement so much as a supplement...

Most are not really meals anyways.

Most I have looked at are around 150-200 calories. Thats 2 slices of bread. A soda. Hell it isn't even that much more then 2 apples. It's barely even a snack when you try to get 3000 calories a day.

However if you have to they can get you through a few hours. My favorite are a brand called Kashi bars. Natural, come sin peanut butter, and is mostly made of oats. It's a snack, and only has 140 calories but they are good quality ones at least.

Is there anything so bad about precooking something and bringing it with you? You can buy lots of frozen food in bulk too, and that will be thousands of times better for you.

Yeah, ordinarily that's what I'd do, however working in a coffee shop means being discreet about not eating their food. After all, why should they let you spend 8 hours a day there if you're only spending a minimal amount of cash? It might be worth packing a sandwich though, and maybe taking a half-hour stroll around the area sometime during the day.
