Once I get some money, I was looking into taking up a martial art. My reason is strictly for self-defense, not sport or tournaments.

So far, I have looked into Ju-Jitsiu, Judo and Krav Maga (research online)

However, I want a martial art where some pain can be inflicted on you during training or sparring. E.g. learning how it feels like to take a punch or a kick.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Do Muay Thai/kick boxing and some grappling. From my experience it's been the most pratical combo.

"the attacks and defenses are intended to inflict the most pain possible on the opponent in the least amount of time. Groin strikes, headbutts, and other efficient and potentially brutal attacks are emphasized."

That's what I've come understand about it. If that's the type of defense you're looking for you'll probably do well trying it out. I've practiced arts similar to this and they can be efficient in self defense. Personally I tend to stray away from arts such as this at this point in time due to personal preference. It would be good to have in your arsenal though, in case a situation arose where you had to put your own protection before anything else (eg. they would likely teach you how to disarm an opponent who has a knife in their hands if it came to that).

put your hard bits into their soft bits...as far as I'm concerned the elbow is the most lethal part of your body, learn to use it ;)

Judo is fun. I can't stand martial arts with gay kicks. Judo is hand grappling, pressure point fun.

That Krav Maga stuff, which is from the Israeli army if I'm not mistaken, sounds pretty good too, haven't tried it though.

I am guessing thai boxing... but the bad thing is that there are so many schools for it that its hard to find a real school. If you get a lot of money try to set up a plan for reg lessions plus 1 private a week. You dont want to start off sparing to early (i did) because it will give you bad habbits. You want to do pads and become fluid with your punches to where honastly you dont think about what your doing excepts where you want to hit next. THEN spar. Also if you find a good trainer he will have you at the end of the private do conditioning which is where (mine with bare fists) stand there and punch and kick you to where it almost breaks you but it dosnt, just to make you tougher. just a suggestion...
