Marijuana - Does it speed your metabolism?

I've heard this before...is it true?

I used to be fat in high school then I went on a huge fat fast and lost alot of weight, and that whole time I would smoke 3 times a day.

Never heard of it increasing your metabolism... all my stoner friends are at least mildly obese. It does mess with your testosterone levels and isn't too good for your lungs. Its still one of the least harmful drugs but that doesn't mean its healthy for you or is free from side effects. There are even credible medical studies that show MJ can give some guys man-boob due to the fluctuation of testosterone and estrogen. I still smoke it but have cut way back as I'm about to start up a muscle gaining fitness routine.

How are estrogen levels correlated with gyno...?

Estrogen is the female development hormone... I don't know the exact science behind it but supposedly higher levels of estrogen in some men can cause man-boob

thats a myth, weed doesnt speed up your metabolism... think about it...
1. is a depressant
2. lowers blood pressure
3. makes you tired
4. makes you eat

i really dont see how it would speed up your metabolism, unless the process of getting rid of it would, but not even that because weed stays in your fat cells for a long time.
also the lowering testesterone levels is a myth, studies have shown that weed doesnt affect estrogen and testeterone levels.

HAHA I actually did hear someone say that which brought up the question in the first place.

A buddy of mine said that the reason you eat is b/c your metabolism is working...I don't know if thats true but he is studying medicine. He said that it is based on your heart speeding up or something...I just smoke to have fun and keep my mind straight sometimes anyway. Its good for you if you don't smoke like a homeless man.

Arnold Schwartzneger use to smoke a joint before going to the gym. He claims its good for working out because your hear beast faster therefore your blood is better circulated.

I have smoked weed daily since i was 15. I am 27 now and still going strong. I always wondered if this had something to do with me being so skinny. Ya i eat a lot of junk, fast food, steak chicken or wahtever i want. I dont watch what i eat because i dont have to. I am 5'7 and weigh only 125-30 pounds. I havent been able to gain weight no matter how hard i try. I havent really tried that hard but still i ate a whole large pizza yesterday for breakfast. Ill just crap it out or burn it off.

I heard this from many sources including Dr. Drew (yes, on Loveline... hey it was late and nothing else was on the radio :shiftseyes: ) so I'm sure there have been studies to back it up. I'm going to assume a doctor knows more about the medical effects of MJ than a bunch of Don Juans, no offense :)

That is BS though, flat out. Sorry man, I smoke all the time still and even I know its bad for you. You're inhaling smoke filled with hundreds of thousands of different chemicals (a majority of which scientists have yet to identify!) Regardless of the lung damage and increased cancer risk, I'm sure you have no idea what is going on inside your body when you smoke weed. I DO believe that there can be psychological benefits from smoking weed - it actually helped me out with depression believe it or not... even though it is classified as a depressant. Go figure! It helps with the musical creativity sometimes too.

If you wanna do it that's your decision but don't kid yourself by thinking it is actually good for you. Everyone has their vice, and MJ is not as bad as alcohol (or cigarettes IMO) but its not like MJ has vitamin C in it :p

I know Arnie smoked it but do you have a link to support the claim that he smoked a joint before workouts? I've only tried it ONCE and I almost puked from it. Also Arnie was pumping some serious roids and he had great genetics for lifting so I'm sure weed wouldn't hold him back.

he says it in his book, ill have to ask a friend about the book title I dont remember exactly and also one of his videos it shows him light a joint at the gym on the end of the tape.

I don't know about the metabolism thing but I know if you have problems eating large while bulking smoke a doobie and you'll have no problems consuming your 4000-5000k range.

that actually makes a lot of sense, that bodybuilders smoke to eat calories in the 5000k range some even have to eat about 7000 calories if hes hardcore and big. like people who have eating disorders are prescribed marinol which is synthetic THC.

Daily for 12 years? That goes beyond "recreational drug" and is obviously a crutch of some sort for an issue that you need to address with a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.

I saw something on Show Time about the benefits of MJ, some of it made sense and they made some doctors look real dumb. I forgot the name of the guys, they are pretty well known, one with tall guy with long hair and a short guy.

is not that serious....theres ppl that have been smoking cigs for 30 years and they dont do anything, if he wants to quit he can quit easier than if they were cigarretes bc weed is not addictive, is just his choice....
