Does anyone know how to make your voice lower? I have this annoying high-pitched voice that is really a problem when it comes to women. I have a girlfriend, and I can talk to almost any woman, but at times, when I am caught off guard my voice will go REALLY high. It REALLY sucks. People have asked me if I was gay a couple of times. I also have to make sure to use a lot of energy when I talk or my voice goes too soft. I can tell that people start to treat me like a wuss until I start putting more force behind my words.

Uhhh I'm no voice coach here but I'd say practice speaking low in the mirror or something. I know you're supposed to do something with speaking from your diaphragm to make ur voice resonate at a lower pitch, not sure how to do it though. Luckily my voice is fairly low but its just naturally like that.

Hell if worse comes to worse, embrace it.

Yell a lot. Don't do it around females, but your voice will become deeper.

I have a high pitched voice too. Its never been a problem for me, really. What is a problem is when I speak too fast-- practice on slowing your words down first, a lot. Also, I when I had to direct a show or be the boss at my work, I would yell a lot, it kind of gave me a raspy voice for a couple days. I have to admit, having a raspy/rough voice didn't hurt when I would talk to girls.

Speak from the belly, it should feel like it's vibrating in your chest.
Hum then tune it so you can feel it buzzing in your chest, you talk from there.

Check out the Vocal Power series..I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find it if you know what I mean.

Touch your adams apple when you speak...see where it rest high in your throat? Now dow a deep hum as low as you can go. Then count to 10 projecting from your belly and try to feel it in your chest. Feel your adams apple again and see if it has dropped down some. keep practicing sits lower. Remember that your voice sounds different to you in your head than it does to other people, so get a recorder and tape these different exercises.

I work part time in a call center, and I notice that when I speak from my chest with a more authorative tone, I tend to do better with my calls. I do this exericise right before work to get my voice strong and deep. Also project your words, talk like your talking to someone 10 feet away instead of two feet. It helps you sound stronger...just make sure you don't yell. Good luck.

Read a book aloud every night and talk in the way Yogi Bear does. If you put your finger at the top of your Adams apple and speak like Yogi you'll notice it drops lower.

The more you practice the more you'll condition your voice to sink into a lower tone.

A big thanks for the advice guys I'll do that. Yeah, Duffdog, I don't let it stop me or anything, I had a long conversation with a lady at lunch today and we were talking loud in front of everyone for a long time with other people chiming in, so it's cool, but I think it would give me an edge if I could get it in the lower range. It used to be a little lower a few years ago, but I guess I started using my higher pitched voice too often.

Yeah, I forgot about the yelling thing, lol. I used to do a lot more yelling for fun and it did help.

Firstly, breathe with your diaphragm (gut expanding feeling), not your chest. You consume more oxygen.

Then after a few deep breaths, say the ABCs in your normal voice. Then say them in one note lower, and lower, until you can't go any lower. Do this exercise three times a day and see if that helps. You'll get used to the lower sounding notes because you are breathing correctly and because you are exercising your voice in ways you normally don't.
