Yes, will today the teacher allowed us to read our papers out loud in health class for 5 Extra Credit points. Alot of people didn't have the guts to do it, so I guess I'm already better off than them, but when I read my paper to the class, I had this UNcontrollable nervousness. I was shaking, I was stuttering, I couldn't stand straight, I couldn't think straight, I was just nervous and I did this infront of the WHOLE class too, so yeah, that was embarassing. I don't know what it was, it's like the minute I stood up infront of the classroom, I just got really nervous, I don't know why it happened, it just did. I really want to overcome this nervousness, so I want to know if you guys have ever been in this situation and how I can improve on this/become less nervous infront of crowds.

Just keep doing it, it will soon become natural...

Think about where you are now... You're alive, nothing bad came of it. Reading aloud is fine.

Good Job, keep throwing yourself into the fire.:cheer:

Well, I'm usually natural at reading/giving outloud class reports.

If you are good at writing reports/essays, you should feel proud for it, and that you are better than everyone else at doing it.

I'm a pretty good writer myself, so thats how I feel.

What you could do is... hmmm... maybe if you wrote a really really good paper, with correct spelling/grammar, you could say something extremely dumb at first.

Say something dumb, shy, and/or nervous. People will think you aren't bright, after that, take a deep breath, but don't faint.

Then read your paper with a strong voice. Remember that your paper is better than everyone else's and that they should be astounded after hearing your paper.

After you said something dumb, and then showed them up by showing your courage to get up and read your awesome paper, they will be thinking...
"Wow I thought he was dumb at first, I don't want to read my paper outloud anymore."

Basically, a dumb thing to say outloud when you are standing up would be like:

"Umm... so... wowwww... uhhh... here's my report. <read your paper>"

or

"I don't think its that great... but here I go. <read your paper>"

I think that should help... tell me what you think

I have like the opposite of stage fright. I had to speak in front of a large crowd, for my first time ever, last year. It was in front of about 1500 of my school mates, and I just felt empowered rather than weak, nervous etc. That must be what amphetamines (speed) feel like.

don't even worry about everyone else in your class. Just pretend your the only one there, and the fact that your "brave" enough to go in front everyone else, while they are sitting there.

Funny you mention that.....I am a singer, when i sing the national anthem at a few giants games it is so easy...but if its a report in front of a classroom of kids i get really nearvous. I dont know why that is.

I think the best advice it to keep doing it....soon it will be come second nature to you. I also suggest taking a public speaking course if you can.

Nervousness is awful. The way I deal with it is to try and avoid eye contact. Or just think about what you are saying and saying it before realising that people are there. You will only be embarrased by lack of confidence. Confident people ooze positivity. Known fact, amigos.

Or do my thing... or look straight at someone in the eye... or a hot girl... and read your report -- ****y like ... and give her a certain look.. or something. But just don't stare at her -- just no TOO long

That could also get you a chance to talk to her after class

I kinda have this prob, but it was A LOT worse last year and years before. Just think, lets say you sound nervous and it sounds weird..who gives a crap? Do you really think people are going to talk about it again, ever? It's not a big deal, if you mess up nothing will happend. Thats the way i deal with it.

Also, theres ALWAYS ppl just as or even more nervous then you.

I've felt like this before, during presentations. Except instead of making a presentation in front of the class, we had to make one in front of 4 different grades.

Ånyway to overcome your nevousness, you have to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. This means that you need to participate in class and get used to saying things during your discussions. Plus another great tip is to RELAX and take DEEP BREATHS.

Good luck

Your thinking too much man. Just realize your better than anyone else in that room. Wtf is this bout avoidin eye contact?!? Give everyone jus a little of that seductive gaze you got, then theyll be listenin to the story more than your nervous tone. When you get up to go speak in front of a class or a dam army for that matter jus know youZa Don Juan!

Usually I try to work some humor in there, and I have some friends that root me on.

Like when I go up to speak, people know that I am going to say something awesome, and they all anicipate my project.

One time I had a project, where we were supposed to make a representation of a character in our book.

Well I used bunches of tape, and mine looked like a potato.

Well my character was ok, but I decided to take the clothes off of one of my friends GI JOE dolls, and thus I had created sniper potato.

OMG, it was so irrelevant to my book, but even the teacher laughed, and she acts like a ***** most of the time.

But basically people have to know you as a funny and fun to be around guy.

Always add humor in your presentations, if they aren't that important. I mean my project was worth 200 points, but I still fulked around with it, because I mean, it isn't actually that important.

So just add soem humor, and they will laugh.

Crack a few jokes, and really get into it.

Like research up on your project.

Make sur you know enough that you can answer any and all questions, and you won't even have to look at your paper.

The biggest mistake people in classes make when presenting a project, is that they rely on something they have rehearsed. They don't actualy know what they are talking about, just what they got from somewhere else.

Think about this.

You probaly were boring. I am not trying to be harsh, but like seriously.

No one in class actually pays attention, unless you are exciting, interesting, and funny when you present.

They don't actually care what you are saying.

One of my secrets, was that I would write out a huge paper on any project, but then I would just bring it up with me to present, and I would act like I was looking at it, but I actually wasn't.

I already knew everything, so I could basically discuss what I was going to talk about, and people would be impressed with my knowledge, and how good I made it sound.

Have you ever seen someone presen a book report, and they read straight from the paper? It is so boring, and you can not listen for the life of you.

Well don't be boring, be marvelous.

You can PM me if you want some more ideas, and help, because I used to be the worst at class presentations, but now I am the best.

If you can win the audience over, they will be putty in your hands. You will then have nothing to be nervous about.
