Low-carb dieting? anabolic diet?

I'm interesting in doing a low-carb diet, but there's so much goddamn conflicting information out there. Even in the few threads I've read about it here. I've read about the anabolic diet but I'm still not sure how exactly that differs from a low-carb diet. From what I've gathered (mostly on this board), I should eat very few carbs during the week and only at breakfast, and then load on carbs during the weekend. Is that basically the way to do it? I'm 5'8, about 171, and while I want to put on more mass, I've spent FOREVER unsuccessfully trying to get rid of this last layer of fat covering my abs, and it really kills my physique. I've never bothered seriously controlling carbs before.

For people on carb-restricted diets, what do you eat? And what's a good list of things I should and should not eat? Is this a good list?

In terms of how many carbs you should consume, if you should consume any at breakfast or not, how to work cheat days, etc.

Hey bro...think about it this way:

Normally, the human body will selectively metabolise and use carbohydrates for energy when they are available, thereby sparing your fat stores. Therefore, if you restrict your intake of sugars/carbs, etc your body will have an easier time staying lean because you'll be in lipolytic (fat metabolizing) mode.

My diet right now, focuses on being lean, is primarily a protein-fat sorta diet. I eat lotsa fruit, chicken, salads, protein shakes, chili, occasional sandwich, etc. Most of my carbs come from natural sources, mostly fruit. I might have like 2 slices of bread a day or something, if that.

Eat 5-6 times a day. And restrict processed simple carbs to mornings and post-WO. I'm not sure why i don't get fatter eating fruit. I eat LOTS of fruit, and I know this is one thing that's holding me back. I personally feel bloated when I eat higher amounts of complex carbohydrates, so I try to stay away from these.

I don't do cheat days really...if I feel like having ice cream or something, i'll have it. My metabolism is good enough that I can get away with it as long as I don't do it all the time.

Always eat breakfast. I usually have a protein shake w/ 2-3 pieces of fruit. Lately, I've been swamped with work so I've been using protein bars, but shakes are better. As for the types of fruit....I eat a very wide variety depending on what's in season, apples, apple-pears, bananas, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, pomegrenade, mango, etc...

I think a high calorie protein-fat diet will help you to stay lean when you're bulking. If you're trying to drop the last bit of fat, I'd say change up your training so you're doing more varied and intense forms of cardio and drop your carb intake, increase your protein...maybe consider investing in a thermogenic.

It would help if you posted a pic. I have VERY similar stats to you...and I don't mind being 171 at 5'8" although its on the heavier side for me.

Good luck!

for me, i'd rather work from principles than count carbs or calories. and there are many diets out there because they've all worked for someone. in general, the fatter you start out, the more carb sensitive you are, and the more restrictive you'll have to be, at least until your body is less insulin resistant (and it's pretty clear to me that you never fully restore a proper insulin response, and the farther you go the wrong way, the more true this is).

so it's not a conflict of principles, it's a conflict of details of execution.

short version: pick a diet, or pick a set of principles, and stick to it for a while, and see where it gets you in a month or two.

It's very healthy to eat the whole egg. Don't listen to anyone who tells you to eat only the whites

Should I stick to just a couple of yolks and an assload of whites or is it ok to eat the whole damned egg?
I went raw with eggs two weeks ago and am totally kicking myself for not doing it years ago. It's so quick, easy, healthy, and tastes fantastic. If low carb is what you're seeking, this will get the job done.

The new fast food for me: 6 (organic) eggs, 8 oz water, 2 scoops chocolate whey, 1 tbsp natural peanut butter, followed by a handful of fish oil capsules for dessert.

You're certifiable and completely insane. Salmonella alone keeps me from looking at raw eggs.

Doesn't the texture of raw, slimy eggs, slithering down your throat make you want to puke everywhere?

You're a stud my friend.

I'm sure RedPill felt the same way before finally trying it. All of us have felt ify at first but once you do it you realize it isn't a big deal at all and getting salmonella is REALLY rare. Also he blends them in a shake so theres no texture to worry about. (although i've taken them straight down unblended and they just go right down, no big deal)

We all eat them raw Karma, they're best that way. Tastes great in shakes. Warboss Alex has eaten more raw eggs then anyone on this planet and has never had salmonella. He wants me to eat 24 a day!

Raw eggs have a slight taste of vanilla and no texture when blended into a shake.

Label me a giant ostrich pvssy then. I'll eat my eggs over medium or scrambled.

You guys have balls, I'll give you that.

raw eggs = key to significant strength gains. have some cooked for sure but you're missing out if you don't have half your intake raw at least.

as for salmonella, there's more chance of getting struck by lightning.

Yeah I did have a difficult time with the idea when it first was presented to me. I really appreciate the forum members here continually encouraging everyone to question mainstream dietary conditioning, much like some of the other forums here encourage us to question our social conditioning. One more layer of the matrix destroyed.

Misconceptions about raw eggs:

1. taste - as it's been said here they taste like vanilla with a hint o' caramel
- complete 180 from expectations
2. blended with a bit of water they have about the same thickness as milk
3. quantity - adding more eggs does not increase thickness nor intensity of the taste
4. salmonella - What a pretty name for something people are all conditioned to be afraid of. Reminds me of Selma Hayek.
5. slimy - blended with anything else and there is zero slime.

Do what it takes to step through.
