For those that don't know Nas was a heavyweight in the rap game. He recently divorced his wife of 4 years and they also recently had a child a month or two ago.

Here are some thoughts from a few other people.

reading around, kelis stated in court that nas earns around $200,000 a month and she was earning $20,000 a month (which is a lot less than nas but still more than some people earn in a year) at the moment of which she has to pay $15,000 a month in mortgage and then the rest is used on living expenses. she originally applied for Nas to pay $80,000 a month plus the list below, but the judge gave her $55,000 plus nas has to pay her mortgage, the kids and kelis' medical insurance and expenses and for the babys nurse and setup, he also has to pay for her lawyers expenses which comes in at $35,000. so pretty much nas is down $70-80,000 a month for the next 18 years.

thats based on him being at the top of the game and making gold selling albums and endorsements for the next 2 decades.

hopefully it will come down on appeal but even if he was to half that its still about 25000 a month.

The only way out is to subvert the law through some complicated way of hiding your assets or moving to a different country to get married where the laws are more favorable.

And in this particular case, Kelis was angry that Nas cheated on her, so she tried to really screw him over by overstating his monthly income to inflate the monthly child support numbers.

What total BS. I don't see how a child has a right to a $55,000-80,000 a month lifestyle even if the parents were together and the man had his child with him. A child has a right to his basic needs being met and then everything else is the discretion of the parent. Best interest of the minor is just a sham. This is all about punishing a man for having a child and rewarding the woman. And if the guy is suppose to contribute $55,000+/month for child support, then what is the woman contributing? Let's get real here, how much more does it cost a month to raise a child over living without a child. Maybe $400-$800 a month tops? So take half of that and child support should be capped at $400/month regardless of the father's income.

I don't see what difference that makes. There's now no-fault divorce and if they were getting a divorce because she cheated she'd still get custody and receive exuberant child support payments.
