So I just found out that one of my closest friends overdosed on herion last night. He is braindead, they are keeping him alive until his father gets there.

Its fvcked up. Me and this dude were best friends in highschool. Drank together, fought each other twice (once for fun, once out of anger). Now he is dead, just like that.

Right now, I don't feel anything about it. Is that weird?

Wow. That's rough. So sorry...

No doubt you are in a state of shock and/or denial. It is 100% normal and to be expected. Do not judge it or try to change it. It's part of the normal healing process. It's likely that your emotions will cycle in intensity and variety as the truth sinks in more and more. Loss is hard. Stories like yours seem even harder.

Be extra kind to yourself. Be sure to do things that take care of you, like gym, good sleep, healthy food, etc, to support yourself as you go through the grieving process. It's not a time to push yourself but to focus on doing the basics each day for a while.

Hang in there. Reach out as you need support. It's strength to seek support not weakness. Just ask.

I lost someone close to me today too. I don't feel anything yet either, it hasn't set in. Don't feel like you have to react in any sort of way, just do what feels natural to you.

My good workmate lost his good friend last week - the drop down dead, leave a wife and two young kids, at the age of 40, totally clean-living kind of scenario. Talking to my mate a few days after, we decided that the only certainty we can fathom is that, when it's time, it's time. Full stop.

As an aside, I had a diagnosis of potential left ventricular hypertrophy on Friday. Such is life, indeed. We get on and carry on. And enjoy.

It's not until we stare mortality square in the face that we fully appreciate the precious gift lying in the palms of our hands, every single time we wake up. Get on with it fellas. Just get on with it. Never let a single thing stand in your way.
