Letting people have pictures in posts

I know this has been debated over and over again but I beleive the forums could really benifit from letting people post pictures.

I am talking about pictures hosted on other servers or websites and not on the actual sosuave server.I am not talking about rank pictures as well.Im talking about seeing the actual picture instead of a link.

1)Woudnt it make the whole server use more bandwidth and thefrefore go slower EVEN MORE?

-Not necessarelly.Lets take for example our smilies.You might think they do not take a lot of bandwidth on our server but they actually do because every upload from the server stacks.On the other hand, loading pictures of ANY SIZE woudnt take ANY bandwidth at all from our server because they would be hosted elsewhere and uploaded from elsewhere.

Lets say they take out our smilies and ask us to find some ourselves(by using the remote url of that smilie found elsewhere), the server would actually be managing less trafic and would therefore be faster.

2)What about people with slow connections?

-This board`s system makes the text load before other medias(like pictures).As long as people do not overkill this feature, it shoudnt really slow dont 56k people. Anyway, if they join a thread about posting pictures, they know they will have to wait for the pictures to load and if they joined a "regular" thread with a couple pictures in it, they can always read the txt while the couple pictures load.

Actually, I think the reason pictures aren't allowed on here is the same reason swearing isn't allowed.

Pictures would just be one more thing to police, too; and that's a lot of time spent for me to go through every thread, downloading every picture from different servers, just to see if any of them are porn or not.

You say it won't slow down 56k people. Well if it already takes 15 seconds for a page of text to load sometimes when I'm on cable, pictures with 56k people could be a nightmare.

And really, the only benefit they could have is aesthetic. Other than that, if it's not important enough to just link to it, is it worth it?

It takes 15 seconds because the speed at wich it is sent from the sosuave server is slow.

Downloading pics from other sources woudnt slow the website`s layout and text "apearence" on your screen because they work in parallel.I can affirm you that this website has at most 30k to be loaded for itself. Its an average of 6 seconds or less.It takes a long time to load because the server is overloaded not because of your speed connection.

*Sigh* To agree with what Von Neuen has said, it would take more time to police the site. That's time that we don't have...Well, most of us anyway. Also, there used to be pictures allowed on this site at one time. If I remember correctly, Madskater212 (Nocturnal) had one of the better pics. But, it WOULD slow down the site, MrBond007. If you just linked it, that would be fine...If you put it in as an avatar, or as a post, then the site would slow. That's because it would "lock on" to the site, much the same way the text does. Pictures take up space. There isn't that much space. Get the picture?

Im not sure where you come from with your "lock-on". Please explain to me the technicals of it because it smells like it came out of your ass because anyone with into internet networks know what you said isnt true.

What I mean by "locked on" is that a picture would be on the page, like the text and smilies. It would take a while to load the picture, if you put it on the post. If you were to LINK to a picture, you can do that. Just find a host and put the pic there, and create a link and paste it on here.

While your post makes good "technical" sense, I can't really see any reason for pictures here. Maybe in the Anything Else forum.

Thanks for the suggestion and we do read them all. But most have already been discussed and debated in the past... which is why it may "seem" that suggestions are being ignored. However, sometimes we change our minds on things or try to experiment a little here and there.

I may turn them on in the Anything Else forum if enough people seem interested.

A couple months back I was bored and thought it would be a good idea to get some kind of photo gallery going based on all the "post your pics" threads at the time. I thought it might also come in handy as an extension for the wingman forum, so you know what the guys in your area look like if you want to meet up, along with their basic info like email addy and whatnot. Nothing grand, just avatar size pics.

I actually pretty much finished the basic layout using a combo of flash and html, the color scheme used on this site, and made a pretty neat logo for it, lol. Now it's just sitting on my hd, so if anyone knows about flash and is interested in finding some webspace to get this thing going, let me know and I'll email you the .fla file. I have no interest in taking it any further but the work is pretty much done, and it could be a neat little unofficial gallery.

I can assure you it would take 56k people too many seconds longer, to view something they probably don't want to see, than they would like.

I'm definitely interested. I'd like to post a few pictures of my conquests (of course, I have proof which backs up any claim I may make -- no nudity, however...)
