Left hand grip holding my deadlifts back

I'm at the point where I can do two sets of 5 @ 200 lbs. Today I attempted to do 205 but my left hand could simply not hold on. I think I managed 2 reps.

How do I improve my left hand's kung-fu grip so I'm not dropping the bar?

Are you using alternate grip? Chalk? I find both of those help a lot. Hook grip can help too, but some find it tough to learn and incorporate initially.
