I want to learn how to fix motors, mainly because I'm interested in purchasing a motorcycle and/or boat this summer and need some mechanical ability when it comes to learning how to fix them.

Any ideas where to start, such as beginner books and such?

Thats cool you're going to learn that. I must admit I know nothing about cars compared to the average dude. I'd like to learn more myself. :)

I believe hands on training is the best bet. I've tried learning car repair through book knowledge and it doesn't work for me. My father is a mechanic and he showed me some things. My mechanical skills aren't that great, but I can perform a basic level tune up.

That's where I learned. Not sure I'd do it for a living, but knowing the basics has come in handy over the years, and it's a good excuse to buy tools.
