Hey guys. First off I know I just joined but I've been getting David DeAngelo's Newsletters for months and I stumbled upon this site last week and have been reading it everyday since. So I'm familiar with the whole Don Juan thing and I've gone over the bulking up threads.

Anyway I'm definitely skinny at 5'9" and 106 pounds so for the last week I have been eating much more (especially peanuts for the protein) and cleaning out the basement so that I could put in the Total Gym which I got today. I know many of you are opposed to machines but this was really the only way I could get a full body workout with the little space I have. So tomorrow I will starting my bulking up program but I have a few questions:

1. I was wondering what the pros and cons are of working out first thing in the morning (after eating breakfast of course)? I'm usually tired throughout the schoolday so I thought that this would be a good way to wake me up (and since muscles appear bigger after you workout that would be another plus).

2. Where do you buy whey protein? I don't want to order it off the internet and a specific store name would be much more helpful than "at your local healthstore" because quite frankly I have no idea what store that is.

3. How much whey protein should I have and when?

4. I've looked on many different sites and some say for beginners such as myself to workout three days a week and do all the muscle groups each of those days. But then other sites say to do a different muscle group each of those three days. I'm really skinny so I'm thinking the first one is right for me since I'm starting out with little muscle, making the one resting day in between workouts sufficient for the small gains? Then again I could be totally off which I why I'm asking.

5. This ties into the last question. Could someone please come up with a workout program for me?

Thanks for all your help guys. Sorry for so many questions but I thought it would be better to ask them all in one post rather than cluttering up the forum with separate ones. Any other suggestions/comments are welcome as well.

(a) why couldnt u just go to a gym? you can get full body workout there :).

(b) I dont think theres really anything bad about working out early if u ate. Your supposed to wait an hour to lift after you eat though.

(c) for whey protein. just look it up. try going to your mall. i found a bodybuilding store at mine that has some good deals. i dont know why your opposed to ordering off the internet. i know it might seem sketchy, but i did it and got mine for very cheap.

(d) you take whey protein whenever you want, but the OPTIMAL time is DIRECTLY after a workout. and i mean literally directly after, like make it before your workout. so you can take it like a minute after your workout. The reason you take it directly after a workout is because 1. your muscles need it bc theyre drained and 2. WHEY protein is FAST ABSORBING. so its better to have the whey protein shake then a big meal an hour afterwards.

(e) eat till you explode every 2-3 hours :p. healthy food tho of course. But for skinny ppl that dont like to eat, dont worry about it too much, just get used to eatin a lot.. but dont eat **** like sweets. just if thers something that makes you enjoy the food like adding some sauce to tuna or putting your chicken breast in bread as a sandwhich. makes it much more enjoyable and still good for you.

(f) beginners make pretty easy gains. im not 100 percent sure but i believe you can workout more often at first as a beginner.

(g) for a workout program. ther are tons. try DIESEL's bulking thread for more info. also check out bodybuilding.com and its forums. also here is a very helpful link, it has a few options, u pick whats best for you, and it shows you workouts, go here - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/workoutdatabase.htm

OK thanks for all the help. I don't want to go to the gym, because as I mentioned I'm TINY so I would get hella embarrased lifting really light weights. Then I would get discouraged and give up on it, so working out at home is really the best way for me to go until I can get a bit bigger.

The bulking thread is worth rereading.

I don't know what stores you have locally but what I'd do is read up on whey, find online costs, then visit health food shops and work out price/kilo.

Just remember eating is your primary concern, slowly build up your eating so that you are eating more than 500cals of your base requirement.

I can't stress enough how keeping a beginers bulking routine simple gives you the best chance of success.

Read up on how to do these exercises in proper form.

3 sets 8 reps deadlift

3x8 Over head press

3x8 bent over row

2x8 bench press

3 times a week is plenty, give your spare time over to eating. After a few weeks you should be finding the last set really hard, so give your body chance to grow through rest.

Keep it simple, and you don't need to do more than this to pack on a lot of muscle over time.

But eating is the real key for someone like you.

i started out in a gym, i really think you should go to a gym.

when i went, they let the personal trainer give me 3 free days ( like he showed me all the exercises and gave me a routine, so i learned the proper form and whatnot.. altho i would like to have that same thing again with the personal trainer to check up on my form again)

The most important things in bodybuilding are:

1. Eating. Eating is your workout. Eating is incredibly more important than lifting. Eat a lot of calories. lots of proteins and carbs. (not ice cream/fries)

2. Proper Form. This is regarding your actual weightlifting. The proper form is more important than the weight that you use. Dont let your ego get in the way. Make sure you have proper form before you keep increasing weight.

also if u havent picked workout yet.. exrx.net has a lot of exercises. most sites that show u exercises show you them with dumbbells and barbells tho. SO you may have to adjust that to your machine. I would assume your machine came with a little handbooklet with exercises in it tho.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

No. The best time taking whey is right BEFORE your workout. whey is the fastest protein but that doestn mean that it is THAT fast. it takes around 1hour to be breaken down to muscle mass. maybe BCCA's can do that, i dunno. you should take whey 1hour before workout, directly before workout and directly after workout
