OK, time for a rant:
I hate people who think it's OK to say "good morning" to you if they see you at any time after midnight.
One am is not morning, 2 o clock is not morning. It's not morning until the sun rises. Until then, I don't care if it's past midnight, it's still night. Just because we've technically moved on to the next day doesn't mean it has also magically become MORNING of the next day.
This is something you typically run into at late night diners and or similiar places. Places where the workers have to work strange hours. So they remind you that it's so late and you're still out that it's now morning (which it is not).
These people seem to think that anything from 12 am to noon is morning. However, that's just as stupid as saying "good afternoon" to someone at 11 o clock at night. That doesn't work. Yes, it is technically "after noon," but we have other words to denote times other than "morning" and "afternoon."
For instance, we have evening, and night time also. It's best to match up these words with what best describes what phase of the day we are currently in.
So if you're one of those people who thinks it's OK to say "good morning" at 3 am, stop it. It's not morning yet. Once the sun comes up it's morning. Until then it's still night.
The only exception to this rule is if morning for you happens to be before the sun comes up (like people who start work at 5 AM. These people can say that 4 am is morning. But only to each other. And never to me.)
