I'm going to a Jiu Jitsu class tonite... it is my first time doing any kind of martial art. I fully expect to get my ass kicked, but that's cool, everyone's gotta start somewhere. Any advice?

I have become natural at fighting holds and what not. I have been watching UFC since I was 2, my dad always watched it. I still watch it to this day. I can put people in ar bars like that, break there arms and make em scream for there mommies.
Great.

Meanwhile, back at the original discussion.....

It'll be a slow opener for you dude, they won't put you under much stress.

Just go in with a good attitude and try your best, it's normal to puke the first couple of classes. Plan on getting your butt whooped for a good while. You wont realize how much you're progressing until another new guy comes in after a few months and you roll with him.

Best advice I can give you: DO NOT close your guard for the first few months. Work open guard and take your butt whooping like a man. You'll thank me after 6 months.

It was great. There were only a few other guys in the class and they were pretty cool and I learned alot. Going again tomorrow :D

You essentially upped your VALUE in her eyes by showing her that, if she wants you, she has to at times do things that you like to do. You are SOMETHING after all. You are NOT FREE. If she wants to hang with you, it's going to cost her something — time, effort, money.

They make prescription goggles for sports that are very hard to break and use a band around your head to keep from falling off, or you could get contacts.

Had my 2nd class this morning, I've never felt so sick in my life afterwards. I could barely drive home, when I got home I lay down in the shower for like half an hour, felt like I was going to throw up from all that rolling around and other warm up exercises, and then getting my ass kicked all over the mat. It was fun though, I'm definitely going to keep doing it :D

I've done it before. It's a slow learning curve, once your into it. But it's probley the BEST martial art. I had a 3rd Dan teacher who'd been doing it for over 30 years, and I could see him destroying a room full of guys.
And if anyone gives you lip for doing a "funny" martial art, twist thier arm round see wht they say then.
