It is small things like this that differentiate an Alpha from an AFC

As we all know, courage is a masculine trait and Alpha Males have it.

While, in this day and age, we might not have the opportunity to express courage by slaying dragons and conquering castles, there are little opportunities here and there to display courage.

When a girl finds that her guy is devoid of courage when the situation arises, it is perhaps one of her biggest letdowns

As evidenced here:

Why is a man's life worth less than a woman?

Chivalry is a modern concept, formulated a thousand years ago, originally intended for the nobility. It has spread to the masses only a several hundred years ago.

Mankind has been around far longer than that. It is the man's job to protect his tribe, not just a single woman.

A man is far more valuable, for if a good hunter was lost, the tribe would suffer greatly.

Think about that.

I thought it was something serious. He should have "worn the ball",not move and let her get hit. A bullet? maybe she gets it. I can find another GF[just like she'll find another guy]a day later

I can think about it for days. But lets say: You are walking on the street with your girl in the evening. You are holding hands ...your girl is on your right side of course. Then you hear BANG! ...a door swung open on the right side and a big black german shepherd is running towards your girl(it happened to me) You wont be thinking ...not even a millisecond.

If similar happened to you then you know that there is no point in discussing this.

I must be beta, when I was in jr high I was still deathly afraid of dogs (got mauled by a German Shepard when I was 5). Walking through the woods with my girlfriend, a big one came barreling down the path at us. I took off running and she shouted Warrior Wait! I shouted back, You better run girl! She was pissed, but I didn't care.

Now if it was a fight with another man or someone attacking my wife, of course...but at that point in life vicious dogs were my biggest fear. I've since gotten over it, my old roommate had a huge German Shepard and I learned to love them. Great dogs.

As for this kid...I think the media just wants to give him grief. It was pretty funny to me. And him, and if you watch the video it was funny to her until the media got all judgmental. You know how women take their thinking cues from the media. Rome sounds like a huge mangina, shaming another man. Looks like he couldn't catch it and he just moved.

If you watch the clip closely, she said: 'We just had this conversation BEFORE the game started, I was afraid I was going to get hit by a foul ball, and he said he would catch it.'

In other words, he had advance notice of this situation.

That's exactly the point, your instinctive reaction shows if you are courageous or not.

That's why there is that one quote that goes: 'situations simply bring out what already is in you for everyone to see.'

Besides, if you want to give him the benefit of the doubt for shirking away from the ball, you might want to reconsider, since the reporter asked him: 'What happened?'

He never owned it.

He made up some BS excuse, like: 'Oh it was lost in the lights and I really couldn't see it.'

A real Alpha would have said: 'I should have tried to catch it, that's on me.'

So if your a soldier in the military and a fly suddenly buzzes by your ear or a roach lands on the side of your face and you can masculinely use your teeth to move them out of the way thats a trait of an ALPHA ??

....but if you flinch or freak out your a BETA and your considered a disappointment to Trader ?

This post is such a far reach that its We-Todd-did (thats retarded). Some of you guys get so caught up in your own pseudo science that its comical.

An Alpha would have just caught it, instead of bailing or making up excuses about how he should have caught it. Courage isn't a quality that you're born with, it comes from training/discipline. Martial arts and sports are great ways to build the reflexes and courage needed to deal with challenging situations. After seeing the video of himself, hopefully this AFC owns the situation and work to improve. I'm not speaking on this to diss the AFC, but to emphasize the importance of habit in developing character. There is no flaw in fear - the flaw lies in failing to correct the fear through training. As someone else pointed out, he's got plenty of years ahead of him to work on developing into an Alpha -- I'm sure he'll learn from this situation and work to improve.

If we define Alpha as the one who gets to bang a lot of chicks, our modern Alpha would be the last one to take a bullet for anyone, not the least women, who are very replaceable to him. Plenty of those guys are the metrosexual type and probably can't catch the ball anyway.

The classic "leader of men" Alphas were the ones sending young beta men to die for their glory and profits in wars. They wouldn't take a bullet for some chick - that's just what they'd get their propaganda team to write down so that future generations of idealistic young betas like Trader would be brainwashed enough into believing such BS.

About dogs: The worst thing you can do is to run. Even if you look in his eyes he will feel your fear. Its almost impossible to lie by your body language.
In your opinion, how DO you react when some big ass dog runs towards you, and you know he definitly DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY?
I would prepare myself to kick him as hard as I can, but that would not help if the dude is out to kill you. Dog always wins over man. Big dog will topple you, on the ground it's game over man.

What the guy did was anything but Alpha, just read the girl's reaction. It's as clear as night and day.

Of course I think the issue is that Jitterbug doesn't like it when other people actually have a valid viewpoint, he wants to be the teacher and the authority, so he is trying to make it *personal.* Instead of discussing the issue, he wants to make it into some dynasty BS.

I expected that from girls, not from you.

Blah, blah, blah. If she's just your f*ckbuddy, don't jump in front of her. If she's your girl and you love her, you jump in front of her.

Simple as that, this whole alpha/not alpha debate is stupid.

Once again, from the top, Alpha ≠ Chivalrous.

There are noble Alphas and there are scoundrel Alphas, the difference is all in how they apply themselves. TRADER approaches every argument from what he thinks is righteousness, ergo his definition of Alpha is what he thinks applies best to his sense of virtue. However, the sad truth is that prisons are full of Alpha males who simply channeled their drive toward destructive and anti-social endeavors.

He seemed to get out of the way just fine, why couldn't she?

Had he run the opposite way by mistake and the ball had hit him, would this discussion be any different?

Rollo, back up.

Morality is not part of this particular discussion.

What I am simply saying is, an Alpha has courage. I don't think anyone can argue with that.

Therefore an Alpha would have courageously tried to catch that ball instead of shirking.

Key word: *try.* Whether or not he catches the ball is a question of eye-hard coordination, skill, reflexes, which is not part of this discussion.

To put it precisely: courage is a necessary but not sufficient requirement to be an Alpha. I don't think anyone will disagree with that.

I think what people are taking issue with is: 'The fact that he ran away from the ball, does that indicate he has no courage?'

I say 'yes'

Other people say: 'Oh it's just a split-second reaction, it doesn't mean anything'

But clearly it meant something to the girl who was obviously disappointed in him

Put it this way, if he had taken the ball in the face, would she have ƒucked him like a wild animal later in appreciation? Or would she have been like, "yeah, you stopped a foul ball with your face, that's what guys are supposed to do, what do you want, a cookie?"

Also, for sake of argument, if he hadn't been paying attention and the ball happened to hit him by surprise instead of her, would he be an Alpha?
