Hey guys, I'm really thinking of joining the Navy since I'm getting nowhere in College with my lousy grades. With the Navy in mind, I'm picturing of traveling the world, meeting different interesting people, building better character/dj traits and banging tons of exotic women hehehe...so what do you guys think? Anyone here been to the Navy before? I'd like to get a good idea on what I'm about to get myself into.

How the hell does joining the navy sound fun? You want to build a better character yet you have bad grades? What do you plan on doing after the navy?

The military's advertising budget is in the billions.

Have you ever heard an advertisement for an Ivy League college?

At Yale, we're serious about success. Call now for your free information package. Operators are standing by. Don't wait, call today!

Ivy league schools don't advertise because they don't have to. They are flooded with applications, and it is a very good deal for the few who get accepted.

Now, consider the military in this light. If it is such a great deal, why do they have to spend billions on marketing?

Oh there will be plenty of sexual activity for you...it just won't involve any women.

Sorry, I shouldn't really joke about that. It's just that I know someone who served in the military in Iraq. He was sexually abused frequently and witnessed other incidents.

Why would you want to give your life away to your government and become a robot anyway? Life is too valuable to give away and put at risk!

If the Navy is anything like the Marines, according to a buddy of mine the only sexual activity you're going to get is from prostitutes and strippers.

You'll get much more action if you learn how to be a PUA and stay away from the military.

I wanted to join the military at first (do a search on me, it was a LONG time ago).

If you're this desperate for sex, go buy some exotic hooker/prostitute.

All I can say is - don't do it. Don't join the military.

Do it!

It will give you time to think about what you want in life.

It will give you great benefits along with decent pay.

You'll become stronger physically and mentally.

The list could keep going, but I'm too tired.

I am spreading the love for/of freedom and democracy one girl at a time in a part of the globe that was subjected to years of Soviet rule. No gov't gives me jack.

The Navy has a TON of awesome benefits. Free Healthcare including Dental, free housing, free food. Basically the take complete care of you.
Prison gives you the same. Navy boys are prettier though. At least I hope they are.

I would stick to listening to the advice of people who have actually been in the Navy.

That being said, everyone I've known who has been in the Navy hasn't regretteded. one bit.

Good advice man, my gut is telling me it's a great idea and opportunity. I've lived in a small town most of my life, I want to see what is out there.

You have to ask yourself a few questions.

-Am I doing this for the right reason? (serving my country)

-Am I prepared to go to war? (Our country is at war, and needs people who want to defend it, not travel around the world and get laid and party)

-Am I ready for the sacrifices?

Joining the Navy is right for some people, wrong for others. Can it open up job oppurtunities? Yes, but you don't have to go the Navy to do that.

Will you meet alot of women? Yes, probably, but whats the diference in meeting women while in the Navy than at home in the US?

Research it, be smart about it.

Still undecided? Try the Naval Reserves, after boot camp, just one weekend/month and 2 weeks active duty per year. You can always go full time active duty if you like the taste of it. I was a Reservist for many yrs in the 90's. But I didn't like the idea of active duty, but I did see the world!

Try the resevrves, seriuosly, see how short of a contract they can offer you.

I would support anyone's decision to join the military. What ever branch of the military you join, there's a good possibility that you'll end up on the ground in Iraq or Afganistan. Duty ain't gonna always be on a ship. The Defense Department is starting to use the Navy and Airforce to fill roles normally occupied by the army. That means you could be providing convoy and area security where there are IEDs present and mortar attacks. The navy will put you in a MOS that they think will benefit the navy.

Finish college, then join as an officer.

Why exactly are you getting bad grades in college? Full time job & Full credit load? ADD?

If you want more information on garnishments with the military, here's the link:

ivy league schools are prestigious schools to goto. its the prestige that people are after when they go there. that dont need to be advertised. Im not sure if you could say joining the military per se is prestigious, this is why they need advertisement.

There's more than prestige. When you graduate from Hahhh_vahhd, employers throw lucrative job offers at you. You can get a 150k+/yr job with just a bachelor's degree. The economic value of the Ivy League degree is what is behind the prestige and thus the lack of a need to advertise.

If you're only looking at it just for fun, then wear your reality glasses. Now it is true that you will travel to "interesting" countries and meet "interesting" people but fun may or may not be associated with it.

Join because you want to serve. Expect for the worst tour a sailor can get so you won't be disappointed.
