If anyone ever watches “How I met your mother” there was an episode last fall (The Yips) in which Barney reveals the only reason he joined the gym is so that he can compliment fat women who are trying to lose weight. He refers to it as his investment for the future. When the women lose weight, they will remember Barney fondly as the man who complimented them and encouraged them while they were loosing weight and then he can benefit from their attention when they are hot.
This to me is brilliant. And I can assure you it works. As a bisexual woman, I have an interesting perspective on this. I am incredibly vain when it comes to women and I would never consider dating a “fat” girl. However, until recently I would have been considered obese. I was always surprised when men would compliment me when I was heavier, knowing I would never considering dating a woman my size. I always thanked them, but ignored their advances, having a hard time believing they could actually be attracted to me. I just recently lost over 60lbs. And all of a sudden I have a lot more men complimenting me now than I did a year ago. I have a whole new self-confidence, and am enjoying the idea of dating many of these men. However, the men I am considering first, are the men who complimented me before I lost the weight and encouraged me while I was loosing it.
