I was very good at school; others often sought my advice and copied my homework. I consistently earned some of the highest grades. Then I transitioned into the workforce, where I also managed to be one of the hardest workers, consistently striving for results.

In my school days, there were also less diligent students—those who were moody and very lazy, often copying from me or others on their homework. In the work environment, these individuals seem to thrive: they are the ones who earn more without putting in much effort.

Which of these two types of individuals is actually on the path to wealth and which is not? I work very diligently; my contributions are essential to the company's operations, but the ratio of earnings to hours worked is vastly different from those who do not contribute as much.

A clear example is my new office, where I started two months ago. (But this is actually how most office are structured here). The boss is rarely present, and when he is, he usually spends his time playing on his phone, watching the news, or doing some other tasks.

One person in particular caught my attention: he doesn't really do much work, often watches music videos, and frequently discusses his personal life with "trusted" colleagues about his upcoming trips, wife, kids, etc. However, whenever there's an opportunity to take credit for something minor—like fixing a broken chair wheel, receiving packages from a courier, or participating in a conversation where he needs to offer a final judgment—he is always present. His position is the supervisor/director and seems to attract a lot of attention from women.

Meanwhile, the office runs smoothly thanks to people like me and other highly specialized individuals. If we were to do what the supervisor does, it would likely leave us feeling depressed, bored, or unfulfilled, as our motivation comes from a genuine inner drive. The problem is that the boss and supervisor earn salaries ten times higher than ours, despite us being more intelligent and capable. This has led me to wonder what it would take for intelligent and hardworking individuals like us to start our own company and become supervisors, while still hiring other talented people.

Being in this position and watching them take all the credit, having time off for personal errands or "meetings" (which often involve grocery shopping or attending birthday parties during work hours), and seeing them gain status, pre-selection, and social validation at our expense can be demotivating.
Because at the same time you are working hard, you're actually negating youself those perks they're receiving for your work instead.

Rather than suppressing ourselves and becoming depressed, what should the most hardworking and intelligent individuals like us, who genuinely want to work and feel passionate about it, do?
Just see what others do in their daily life and replicate just because they're in those positions?

I also had experience in another office where the boss actually stayed there to work FOR REAL, but I'm sure there are many situations of those men who actually just take the credit. Expecially in Italy.

You feel good if you're working hard and you're getting rewarded with social proof, validation, money, etc, but if you work for someone else, and not getting that, the formula might be incorrect?
