I've seen it said on these boards a million times. Be yourself, imitation is suicide. While I agree that you should be yourself, as whatever you are pretending to be will eventually be seen through and you will come off as a detested phony, I've found that imitation can be a powerful thing.
Let me explain how I use it..
You know how after you watch a movie you kind of feel like your in the movie after you watch it? The key is to find the right movies to watch that can give you powers and courage you never had before. They are motivators.
The other night I watched 8 mile. Right after that movie I realized that I was alot like B-Rabbit when I tried to sarge incredibly hot girls, I would CHOKE. But I kind of saw myself as B-Rabbit, after watching the movie, and I went out sarging. I told myself any hot girl is like a member of the Free World Leaders, trying to intimidate me and psych me out into choking again. When I saw a hot girl I got that clamming up feeling, but then I remembered B-Rabbit taking matters into his own hands and completely tearing it up vs the FWL. I've never felt such confidence or complete desire to tear it up. I approached girl after girl that I would normally be afraid of. I felt free.
One night not too long ago I watched Oceans Twelve before a night at a club. I became Brad Pitts character Rusty. All I could think of in the club is how I am the suavest and most confident guy in the club. After all, would Rusty be intimidated by anyone or anything? Eye contact was no problem for me and my conversations were on a level of ****y and funny that I've never expierenced before or since. I got like 10 numbers that night.
It's not just movies this works with but pretty much anyone you want to view as a role model. Sports stars work well, I personally like to imitate Kobe Bryant or Tom Brady. They speak a lot of accomplishing your goals regardless of what obstacles you face or what people say or may think about you.
Here's another one although its kind of crazy. Darth Vader. You think he's focused on getting some *****? His focus is on himself, his work, and accomplishing what needs to be done. He carries himself with power and confidence because he knows he is the baddest ***** in the galaxy and anything that opposes him cannot match his power.
I'm not talking about BECOMING the role model, but rather using it as a generator to release the power of your true self. I'm talking about unleashing your true personality and using role models to eliminate distractions. I'm talking about being yourself and how I did it. I'm sure every reply I get is going to tell me I should be in a strait-jacket but I don't care. I just wanted to throw this out there make of it what you will.
