I seem to be tired alot, even when I get a good amount of sleep. I am constantly yawning. I don't know why. What is a good, healthy way to be energetic (NOT caffeine)?

Read an article about this the other day.
Go to your physician and get it checked out...could be underactive thyroid gland, which is a big cause. Also could be something like stress. However, if you're getting a solid 8 hours of sleep a night (I prefer 6 in a night and a 4 hour nap in the day, :D), there's somethin wrong if you're still tired. See your doctor and he/she will probably do a blood test too, cause there's any one of several factors that could be causing your fatigue. Hope that helps.

You're gonna get this moved to health and fitness...

I'd see a doctor about it too. Could be any number of things, but might as well play it safe.

Are you eating properly?

Drink lots of water take a multi-vitamin every morning, fruits, etc.

Yeah I usually get at least 8 hours of sleep. Even when I get 10 hours I still find myself yawning alot.

I eat a vegan diet consisting of mostly vegetables, fruits, alot of soy products, nuts, and alot of grains. I know I am getting all of the nutrients I need.

Whenever I get lazy I get tired all the time. Especially over breaks from school, when I sleep in until afternoon, I have no energy. Make sure you're staying active. Just my theory, but I think your body kind of hibernates when you don't do anything.

Hmm... maybe that is my problem. On weekends I stay up until like 3 am and wake up at 1 or 2 pm the next day.... and I am tired until I go to sleep again.

I think I will try running and working out more... maybe that will help me out.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Follow this check list and try to improve on each.

1) Sleep (the obvious choice)
2) Water- Drink tons of it. Sometimes your periods of fatigue during the day are directly linked to dehydration.
3) Meal timing- eat more frequently to keep fueling energy. But eat the right meals
4) Caffeine and sugar abuse- What comes up must come down and too much caffeine and sugar will lift you but drop you hard
5) Glycemic index, this is related to sugar and blood sugar more specifically. Some meals will spike your blood glucose levels dramatically causing a rapid release of insulin from the body which will dramatically lower your glucose levels. This spike up and down can play havoc on your energy levels.
6) Exercise- If you overdo it, you'll be overtrained and tired. But a tiny bit everyday will definitely energize you. This is why I definitely recommend a bit of cardio, but short duration and higher intensity will do you better.

you're most likely waking up when you're under deep r.e.m.

highly recommended site. tells you when to wake up without feeling tired or groggy.

Why the hell did this thread get necro'ed? It was 8 years ago and people are still giving advice as though the guy is still here.
