Hey guys,

Is anybody else totally addicted to Myspace? I can't get any work done because I constantly log on there over and over to see who has left me messages. I try to get away from computers but then I find myself COMPELLED to go out of my way to go check my messages.

The problem isn't so much Myspace as my compulsive behavior. Anyone have suggestions for dealing with compulsiveness?

Set up email notification. That way, you won't touch MySpace unless something happened. Then leave hotmail/email running with autorefresh on (plugin for IE/FF), and there, volia!

Docs,

I do have email notification. Since I don't have a computer at home I have to use the campus library computers and therefore I can't do the autofresh thing.

See the thing is I have a bit of one-itis with one of my Myspace friends so I tend to log on to Myspace even though I have the email notification option just so I can read the last myspace 'message' she sent me and analyze it to death.

Or other times I try to not look at Myspace but then I go through the "internet loop" where I check all my email addresses, then I check my favorite forums, then I check out a few websites, then I check Myspace or my email for Myspace notification.

It's not so much that I'm addicted to Myspace as maybe the internet in general. The problem is the compulsive behavior. I do see a "shrink" for depression but my next appointment isn't for awhile so I can ask about compulsiveness. Any suggestions on battling compulsiveness (by anyone) much appreciated.

Will power?

Delete your myspace? I've done that...made another one a week later because I was bored as hell one night.

I check it periodically, not as often as I used to.

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

1. Delete Myspace profile

2. Turn off computer disconnect power plug

3. Disconnect internet connection

4. No Tv at all

5. Go on a adventure outside for one week

6. Bring a journal with you to document each day

Doc, that's just it. I have plenty to do and I'm neglecting things. I'm a student so periodically I have to be online whether I want to be or not.

Will power?

Myspace isn't the problem (exactly) it just brought out my compulsiveness. I shouldn't have to delete it but maybe if after awhile I can't break the habit I may have no alternative.

Like I said I'm at campus computers so I can't unplug them or disconnect the internet connection. And of course I need the computer for assignments.

I watch only one tv show per week

#'s 5 and 6 sound good. I can appreciate what you're saying bbestar. That I need to get away from artificial stimulation and appreciate nature.

Will power may be the answer. FORCE myself to stay away from Myspace for awhile and I'll do that starting tomorrow. It's like withdrawell though, Myspace is social crack.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate your help.

Try weening yourself down to once a day. Check it just like you would check your email.

OH MAN! You're 30?! I was about to dismiss this post as another teenieweenie asking for advice, but wow!

Yes, will power is the answer. Discipline. Two options as I see it:

1) Simply delete the account, or stop viewing or whatever.
2) Take baby steps. Small goals. How about you set yourself to not view your myspace for tomorrow, but the day after that It'll be ok? And do that one day on one day off. And start getting digits from women (and male friends, why not) and start getting off myspace.

I agree 100% with everything SamePendo says. You beat me to the punch again!

You need more discipline dude. Just believe you have the willpower to control yourself. Get off the computer, take a moment, clear your mind and believe. (You have to really try.)

BTW: You better get this done soon. If you put it off, it becomes a habit and then its going to take even MORE willpower to get rid of it then.

NOW.

Get off Myspace.

NOW.

And then visit every few days or so. And try to do it more and more infrequently.

Do it now!

Yeah man, I just turned 30 last week. Hasn't sunk in yet but in my defense I am rather immature for my age...lol. Compulsive disorders can be a problem at any age and mine seems to focus on Myspace.

Baby steps are good. My goal is to go Myspace free tomorrow and a few days after that...if I can do it that long, maybe it will get easier. And yes I will resist checking Myspace even if I get 'emails' alerting me that my one-itis has posted messages.

I think lack of discipline is a big problem in my life. Thanks for the motivation, will do!

I turned off my email notices. I'll find out if I've got messages when I check my myspace.

I just did the same Skilla, my messages will be there whenever I decide to check....

Lousy Myspace, it gives the illusion of socializing but it isn't the same thing. My time would be better spent out actually socializing. Time to break this habit!
