Here is my story.

Last year I had a great job that I really liked and it paid quite well. I had been with them for several years up until last summer when a bunch of us got the axe. There was a lot of permanent lay offs through the company when the economy went in the tank. At first I was pretty depressed about the whole situation, then after about a week of feeling sorry for myself I did something about it and got my ass in gear.

Now at the age of 36, I find myself back in college after many years. I'm wrapping up my degree in "wind energy" and working 20hrs a week p/t as well. I have a very nice place, car, clothes and money in my pocket so that not the issue.

I'm just curious how women might very my current situation being the fact that I'm in my mid-30's and back in school. I don't see this as a bad thing at all, but I can't help but wonder if that might be a red flag for most women around my age.

Maybe I'm just over thinking it, who knows. Any opinions would be helpful.

Yes you are.

Who cares what women thinks. Do what you gotta do and go get your degree.

I agree, if they have a problem with it, so be it. Getting that degree is the number one priority in my eyes. Just wondering if that is one of the reasoning that might be inhibiting me from getting more potential dates with women that are around the same age group as me. More curious than anything I guess.

You are over thinking it. From what you said, I actually admire what you are doing. Any woman who has her wits about her would think the same thing, and find this to be an attractive feature about you. Good luck brother.

Can you really live that well on a 20 hour a week part time job? What about health insurance? I swear, if I only had to work 20 hours a week I would be one very, very happy fellow.

It's cool that you're getting into wind, renewable energy sources should be the wave of the future. Not because of the environment, but because we need to break our dependence on foreign oil.

As for women, I think they should respect your ambition and initiative. You're responding to your situation like a man should. It's not unusual in this day and age to have to go back to school and retrain for a new career. And you're into a future technology field, so again I think women should respect you. Even if you're not at your financial peak right now, you're showing you have potential. I don't think they'll hold it against you.

Funny.... I have students in my class that , some, are knocking on 40+.... In fact, one of my former student, who could easily be my father, lol, bought me beer yesterday. He was a good student. No worries about sh!t. Did his work... perhaps because he had seen it ALL and knows what he WANTS.

Thanx for the replies, fellas. I appreciate it.

No, I have other means of income as well, including some student loans which help out a bit as well if I need it. I got a decent severance package when I had left the company that I had worked for too. This also included insurance up to the first year. After August I just have to keep my fingers crossed that I don't get sick or hurt. If I had to live off of 20hr a week check I would be sleeping out of my car. Haha!

The reason I had started this is because the last two women that I had approached had asked me what I do. I told them, i don't know if they were put off, maybe more surprised than anything. It just got me think is all.

Thanx again guys!
