I could really use some advice on whether I should get a university degree or go to college. I immigrated to Canada about 3 years ago, so many things which maybe obvious to you are certainly a mystery to me.
I am about 24 and when I came here I went to adult school and got my high school diploma now I am in first year of electrical eng at university of Toronto. Sometimes I think maybe it’s too late for me to go to university but then I don’t care about it if its my best option. Recently I started to think to go to a collage and take a construction course which is only 2 years and start my on renovation business with some financial help from my father. But that won’t give me any real academic education of course. if I continue on the same path which I am going right now I would end up with a bachelor degree and probably make like 50 a year and that’s guaranteed . But if I go to the construction business it’s a little bit risky. I can be my own boss and there are good chances that I can make much more than that. Also I could lose the business and end up with nothing.
These thought are blowing my mind and I don’t really have any one to give me an advice and I don’t know what to do. I would really appreciate any comment on this subject.

I say continue with the university education.

If you got good hands then why go to college to take a construction coarse? your best bet is to find people who own a business of renovation and work for them and let them show you the ropes about the business aspect of it, while working part time and going to school for EI full time. Meanwhile you are getting your univesity degree and getting experience in the same time.

After you get your university degree and construction experience your vision will be much more clearer and you might be able to do both, and have something to fall on. Work as an electrical engineer while owning a side business of renovation.
