I literally can't think of a line for this situation.

there is a tesco express 5 minutes walk away from my house, I go there quite often to get food.

There are 2 sales assistants there working either stacking shelves or working behind the till. They are both yes's and probably 4-6 yrs older than me. For the most part they have the numb bored look on them.

Whenever they are serving me however, when they see its me they suddenly start smiling the I'm all yours smile and giving as much eye contact as possible. And they have "the look" in thier eyes, you know the look. And when handing me my change they always make more "hand contact" than is neccesary.

Problem is what can you possibly say in this scenario, what can you open with etc.

I mean shop etiquette is you pay and leave soon as. And there is always a que of people waiting so I really don't know how to take advantage of this situation, or indeed, them.

Just say this line. I use this all the time. Make sure you get some small talk and name exchanged first. Then go ahead and say this right here.

Go ahead and write you number on the receipt.

To each their own cup of tea, but I personally find success in opening with humorous sarcasm. One line I deliver to waitresses, near the end of a meal, is “This food is so horrible (sarcastic inflection), I just had to eat it all.” They always laugh. For cashiers, the line could be modified to “I just had to keep coming back.” I once took an improv comedy class and the secret to improv is “Yes, and...” (Agree & Amplify). You only need to look to your situational environment to build humor.

don't use canned material...its sounds insincere. if i say my own 5h17 its original and sound it... you have a brain and i am sure you can come up with equal cr4p to mine.
I agree and disagree. Canned material sounds insincere when you’ve not practiced it enough, and therefore is delivered incongruently. I agree guys should use their own creative sensibilities to deliver originality, but anything you say can be turned into canned material. It’s best to be spontaneous, but canned material is an emergency backup if you’re not quick witted enough to think of anything to say. When you’re not glib and struggle to think of something to say, the struggle snowballs as the harder you try.
