Man I hurt my knee in Brazilian jiu-jitsu class. It was a direct blow to the mat. My knee swelled up, I was not in alot of pain however. I continued going to brazilian jiu-jitsu class and after about 5 classes the knee got worse. It took the knee about 7 weeks to heal. I went to the Dr after about 5 weeks of pain and he said it was a bad sprain.

I asked him if he is sure i did not tear anything. He said no, because if you tore something you would be in alot of pain. If you are in alot of pain or heard a pop when the injury happened than I would suggest you see an ortho doc and have an MRI.

What I would do is after the knee starts feeling better.

Do leg extensions and leg curls every other day. GO light.

And do stretches for the knee twice a day. Doing this helped me greatly.

Fvcking injuries suck.

Good luck to you.

Yea injuries suck. I messed up my knee playing soccer. Now I'm out and watching months of squat gains slip away. I'm going to spend the whole summer on recovery and restrengthening it. Be patient and take it slow. The last thing you want to do is re-aggravate the injury or cause permanent damage. Get professional help if possible.

What did the doc say? Did you tear anything?

@ op and Falcon. Search eBay for knee wrap. Products by BREGG are good, here is manufacturer website.

No guarantees that a knee wrap or brace will help you. It helped me for a small injury I had years ago. They're pretty cheap and worth a try, IMO.

I didn't tear anything which is good. I just need to rest it up and lay off sports until it's fully healed. It's been getting better, I can go up stairs pain free now. Sometime during the summer I will start doing core and balance exercises.

I've tried a brace which hasn't helped much, not by the same company. Maybe I will try a knee wrap sometime.

I hyper extended mine last year. A brace helped.
It still feels tender the next morning when I put a little stress on it. Kinda sucks that it doesn't seem like it'll ever be back to as strong as it use to be.
