I have recently posted a thread called Quotes. Many quotes are posted there. One really opened my eye up though. Here it is;
"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
--Albert Einstein
I have been thinking a lot about this thought. At first I believed strongly with these words. Then I thought about it for a long time. Here’s what I came up with.
When Mr. Einstein says “He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest…” this is very true. But isn’t one of the things that makes us different from all other animals on this planet this very sentence?
A few weeks ago my Biology teacher painted this scenario;
An alien from another world comes. He brings news that an asteroid is coming and Earth will be destroyed along with all life on Earth. He also says he will take with him one specimen of the most sophisticated life on Earth to preserve and take with him to his home planet. He chose a small terrestrial plant. How do you convince him to save the human race instead?
I know exactly what you guys are thinking. Plants aren’t as sophisticated as humans, right? WONRG.
Whether you want to believe it or not. These are facts. Plants ARE more sophisticated than humans. I’m asking you to please listen to me explain. Here’s another quote that might make you listen to me;
"It is always more difficult to fight against faith than against knowledge"
--Adolf Hitler
Think about it for a minute. Imagine a plant. It spends its life in the same place. It does nothing more than it has to do to survive. A plant will kill its own limbs off to help it survive. Plant chemical processes are extremely more sophisticated than that of humans. Plants sit, never fighting, and never running out of energy. Plants don’t kill each other off and they are adapted to survive conditions humans could never hope of surviving. Sure we can survive using air conditioning and heating, but while your inside your house, there are plants outside going through the conditions you are inside to avoid. They even don’t need to kill other living creatures to get their energy.
It is a fact plants are more sophisticated than humans, but how would you convince that alien otherwise?
My answer to that question is love. We are the only species who can actually love and have affection for another member of the same species. Ever heard of the saying “survival of the fittest.” Well that’s how animals who can think base their decisions, by what’s best for itself.
Humans can actually base decisions on others, and that’s what separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom, and even from all life on this planet. We can love. We can have affection. We have emotions. We create. We build. We organize. We search for a purpose. We ask “why are we here“?
There is not another animal or life form on this planet than can do that. It is not our spine or our complex tissues, muscles and organs that separate us from all other life. It is our ability to love, and search for a purpose.
Now your probably asking so how does this come into play with the beginning of this post? Well this is how. Keeping all that new information in mind, read this quote again.

What do you think now? What exactly is Einstein saying when he says “Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
How are we to do this? Is he suggesting we love everything on this planet equally, or is he suggesting we don’t love at all. You see it is impossible to love everything on Earth equally, and it is madness to suggest not loving at all, because then we’d be just another vertebrate, another life form, just another creature on a diverse planet. Loving one person and finding happiness is the goal for almost every human.
I do believe humans have a long way to go. My problems are the only problems that matter to me, I could care less about your problems, just as you could care less about my problems. Humans have an extremely long way to go. Wars and hatred are only holding us back. I don’t believe any natural disaster will do away with humans. I believe we are going to be the end of ourselves. If we do not strive to ascertain total and complete peace, then how will we be able to be a successful life form?
Something like location and religion can make a human hate another human. The average difference of DNA in two different humans is about 0.2%. That means that on average the DNA of two different humans is 99.8% identical. That means that humans are 99.8% identical to each other. How can two things so closely related hate each other? Why do we find a need in hating? These are a few questions that will need to be answered if humans plan on being a great species and not just another one of Earth’s mistakes.
Your life and you problems and the people you love make up you. That one girl or woman who you love is a part of you. Have the people you hold dearest and your own experiences in life built a prison for yourself? Is your life really just an optical delusion of your own consciousness?
I’m just another human providing a thought for hopefully a few hundred others. I am living my life and I am doing my best to be the best person I can be. I am trying to open my viewpoint of life and my world and I’m trying to be more receptive to others’ thoughts and others’ ideas. I’m not going to let any girl, any problem, nor the darkest of days hold be back and keep me from living my life to its fullest. How about you?
