Ok I'm really committed to getting fit and buff.

One problem... I'm 14! (15 in a few months)

So it’s going to be hard to take any supplements, let alone lift weights.

I've heard that it isn't healthy to do weights until you have fully grown. Stunts your growth or something? Besides I can't see anywhere that I could do then anyway, even though my parents probably wont let me anyway.

So what am I supposed to do?

I've taken up boxing but I only do that 1-day a week. And I also do push-ups and sit-ups and stuff but I don't exactly think its possible to get big on them.

concentrate on being fit at your age, do bodyweight exercises, wait till your 15 to start lifting free weights and then at 16 id start lifting heavy. dont be in a rush.

1. Don't take supplements

2. Lifting will not stunt your growth. Thats a myth. I wrote a post on it ages ago. DAFS.

3. Boxing is excellent for a whole host of different reasons. Keep it up, do it more than 1 per week if possible.

What are bodyweight exercises?

What's DAFS?

So really there isn't a lot I ca do but try and get to boxing more than once a week?

Protein is great, if you want to build some more muscle you need to be pounding protein down your throat. Protein supplements, however, don't compare to protein sources such as steak, chicken and eggs.

Supplements are exactly that - supplements. A protein supplement shouldn't be your primary source of protein, it should be used to make up the deficit between your target protein g's/day and your actual protein g's/day.

The times I've grown fastest was when I was relying on steak, chicken and eggs for protein, not when I was relying on protein shakes.

There are weights where I box. Can't you do some light lifting at your boxing gym? Either way you should go much more often. I try to go almost every day.

I would go more often but I have guitar lessons on Mondays and can't go. The only other day its on apart from friday is wednesday and if I go them i will be too sore to go on Friday...

Might try getting my guitar lessons moved.

Oh and I will eat lots of steak too ;)

Thanks guys!

Go both Wednesday and Friday anyway. Your muscles will adjust and the soreness will stop after a few times of forcing yourself to go. In the short term, adrenaline will dull the soreness.

Note that you should NOT do this with lifting weights. If a muscle is sore, unless you really know what you're doing you can injure yourself by working that same muscle. Punching a heavy bag is not as strenuous as lifting.

But we do so much more than that, it is very strenous (at least for me).

Anyway I'm going to try to get my guitar lesson moved so I can go to boxing on Mondays. Then I have a good break between all of them. Maybe eventually I will go Wednesday.

But on 2 other days I'm going to start running and I'll do some other bodyweight exercises.

Sound good?

I will also try to eat a lot more but it might be hard for me because we never have a lot of healthy food around the house, I don't eat a lot and I feel sick when I eat a lot at once.

Probably because you're out of shape. Once you get used to a cardio routine it becomes much easier. I was refering to the heavy bag because it's basically the only thing giving much weight resistance when boxing.

Eat 5-6 smaller meals a day, not 3 big meals a day.

Yeah what most everyone else said, bodyweight excersizes are good.

You should be able to be pretty in shape at your age, but getting big will be tough. Everyone starts releasing levels of testosterone at different ages, and until you are releasing your full blown amount, no matter how hard you try or how many suppliments you take, it wont do much good.

Thanks man for repeating that same ole mantra.

But is it?

Remember, "bettering yourself," is really relative to the "norm." So you have to ask yourself, is lifting only about YOU?
