How to deal with these kind of guys

When you are in the same group of people on a regular basis, and there's a girl you like in this group, but there's also a guy that HAS to dominate the conversation at all times in the group. How do you deal with this? If you say something he will break you off. If you don't say something he will just talk and talk and you really have to fight to get the word. Should I lower my self to his level and try to be even more dominating than him? Or just shut up? It's so annoying..

Is he intentionally shutting you out or is he just a loudmouth?

I deal with a lot of guys like this. If he's not intentionally doing it and you're a good friend, you could address it on the side and let him know what's going on. He should follow into a wing position then, or give you the stage. If he's being a ****, sometimes girls can pick up on it if he's really annoying and doesn't shut the hell up. In that case, I'd try and pull her away (like secluding her from her friends) and even say something to her to the effect of "some people feel like they need to be heard" and make her think the guy is ridiculous.

What I would do would be this..

The guy is talking nostop for 5 mins you act bored and disinterested, you then cut HIM off and tell the girl

ME: "Hey I'm kinda hungry and my butt if falling asleep why dont you come with me to get something from the vending machine come on"

Get up and see what she does if she doesnt follow you then there is no point in trying to go for her since she would rather be with the other guy, if she DOES go with you then you showed MORE dominance then the guy and you have her isolated...I see no problem after that.
