Not to your relationships...
But to your word.
How powerful are you as a man of deeds, rather than a man of talk?
It's so easy for anyone to say they're going to do something:
- "I'm gonna start my own business very soon!"
- "I'm gonna start working out everyday!"
- "Today i'm going to find a job!"
- "My whole house will be cleaned by tomorrow!"
- "Oh yes, i'll be sure to call you for that project collaboration."
- "I'll visit sometime."
- "I'll call you."
- "I'll do this and that for you whenever i'm not busy."
- "Sure, i'll help you paint your house."
and so on.
Needless to say, these are all just words, which mean absolutely nothing until you do something about it. Too many times have I procrastinated and made excuses not to do something that I told myself I was going to do, and its so easy. The reason why it's so easy is because most of the times, I'm thinking that "it's not such a big deal." For instance, I always said I was going to start my own business. I'm going to college and working for a degree at the moment, so I tell myself... "it's not such a big deal! I'll have a degree soon!"
I'm so sure that many people have talked to either someone else, or themselves, implying that something was going to be done to achieve a specific goal. Maybe you told yourself that you'd take up a new hobby, or perhaps that you'd write a book. Now let's all be truthful. How many of those statements that you've either physically spoken, or thought of, has actually come true?
I recall a quote from Woody Allen: "Eighty percent of success is showing up."
My tae-kwon-do master also told me, "If you say you're going to do something, make sure you do it, no matter what it takes, and on time."
So from now on, I'm going to try a lot harder to stick to my word.
How strong is your commitment so far?
