The experts say 7-8hrs/day is all you need. If you sleep as long as you wanted- you can easily exceed 10hrs, no problem. The downside is that your tiredness cycles start occuring past 9hrs. When I broke my collarbone recently- I was logging 10-15hrs/day of sleep(nothing to do)......and my collarbone healed in record time- 5 weeks. Now I know why my mom always woke us up early, on weekends.......we always thought we could sleep-in.

The human body thrives on breaking itself down(through work, exercise), and sleep regenerates us daily.

Sleep as long as you like = depression=unproductive=always tired=no puzzy.

I have noticed that if I sleep more than 8 hours I actually feel more tired the next day and it screws up my whole sleeping schedule. 6-8 hours seems to be the "sweet spot" for me.

Same, I feel sluggish.

Sleep as long as you want, whatever makes you feel the best.

Everybody is different, there is no CORRECT length of time. It is relative.

I don't sleep much, I am extremelly healthy and get a lot done.

I heard that taking little naps during the day maybe an hour or 1 30 does so much better for your body then crashing into a comma at night for 9 hours straight. I usually fall asleep for an hour and feel good without the whole groggy feeling then continue with my day then take another hour nap then go again , I think once it's like 1 AM I sleep till 5 and start my day ....so it works for me and I usually dont feel groggy unless I stay up later then usual.

I've seen a program about this on I forget what news channel, but they did a study and found that the people who generally have cancer excessively sleep. I've never believed in the alarm clock, I always woke up whenever I wanted but I try my best not to sleep in. Reason is because I tend to be even more sleepy when I sleep more, and I just stay in the bed until I can't sleep anymore.

I always feel like 10pm to 6:00am gives me the best feeling. Eight hours is my sweet spot.

Exact same.

Relating to what an earlier poster said, I do feel like if I fall short of my eight hours and get, say, six, I can take a two hour nap the next day and wake up feeling awesome. So maybe it's just eight hours per twenty-four hour period and not necessarily eight hours straight.

leave yourself an 8 hour window and aim for 7 hours of actual sleep, but don't force the issue, and try to avoid using an alarm to wake you if possible. it may take some time to get used to, but your body is made to wake itself up (we got along just fine before the digital alarm clock).

everyone's cycle is a little bit different, but ideally you would come out of a cycle naturally as you wake.

I've also read that if you need more sleep some days for what ever reason, daytime naps are preferred and good for you, then increasing your 8hr nighttime sleep.

11 PM - 7 AM = 8 hours.
Always worked, hopefully always will.
Afternoon naps are too awkward, our body needs "deep sleep" which most of the time, cannot be achieved through short afternoon naps. (I remember reading that in a magazine somewhere.)

I've personally found that even more important than number of hours of sleep is when I sleep. For example if I get the same 8 hours 11pm to 7 am I feel much better than 3 am to 11 am.

Anyone else find this, and if so, anyone know why?

Its something relating to your testosterone levels and how they are high in the morning. Not exactly sure how this works but im sure your body is supposed to wake up earlier than 11 naturally, and that may have a effect.
