How much of your daily protein is it OK to get from shakes? I know real food is better, but it's extremely hard for me to eat that much. What's the highest amount I should get from whey shakes?

Yeah, I know man, getting tons of protein from "real food" is difficult for some of us (i.e. me ;)). Whey *is* food, technically, and there's nothing wrong with drinking loads of shakes to get the protein in. I do it, and without it, there'd be no point in training, because I wouldn't be able to get enough protein.

I've seen WBA and other lads post that they take in a lot of protein from shakes, i.e. 200g per day. One bit of advice tho is to drink your shakes with some fat or fibre added, to slow down whey's digestion (since it's generally a quick absorping protein). i.e. drink your shakes when there's still stuff in your gut, or eat an apple with it to get some fibre :)

At least you're still getting the protein you need, tho - i know how hard it is to eat enough protein in meat/eggs/dairy, and the extra trouble I'd have to go to, so I don't bother trying ;)

I think you may have more energy/strength if more of your protein comes from foods than shakes but the most important thing is to get the daily protein in there.

I weigh 165 lbs and I'm trying to get my protein way up with shakes and food. How much protein should I eat in a day to put on mass? I drink 2 shakes which adds up to 120 grams of protein. And, how much protein is in one egg? Anyone know? Help would be appreciated.

General consensus is 1-2 gram of protein per lbs of bodyweight. Perhaps not related, but since I upped my protein above 1.5 g/lbs I'm rarely ever sore.

A large egg has around 6 grams of protein I believe.

1 egg is about 6 grams of protein egg yolk-is about 3 grams and so is the egg white.

Try this:

Make you eat 6-10 meals a day, with healthy snaking in between
Make sure you get your reccomended servings of fruit/veg
Make sure you get your excess calories requirments (mostly from complex carbs)
Eat as much protien in every meal (and snacks) as possible after that.

Use as much protien from protien shakes on top of that to get what you need (1-2g/lb, ect)

I thought we eat protein first to reach our requirement, calculate how much you need at each meal, and THEN fill yourself up with complex carbs...

if you don't do any cardio, calorie requirments aren't hard, and protien comes first. But if you are doing cardio, its freggin hard, and carbs comes first.

Half your body weight (in grams that is) from protein shakes.

I'd say 100g would be the upper limit. I take 100g from shakes most days because of time constraints.

There isnt really a limit I have heard about

its "preferred" to be from real products, but you would have to be rich to get all natural protein or something
