^Topic^

I'm writing this thread after just staying up the entire night. Why'd I do it? I have no idea.

Normally though, I think I sleep too much. If I have nothing to do the next day, I can sleep past noon. Partly because I usually go to bed around 11-12. But still, that's like 12+ hours of sleep. Wouldn't you just wake up naturally long before 12 hours? Its not like I'm really tired when I go to bed, so I shouldn't need a lot of sleep, but I still snooze away.

No matter how you slice it though, my sleeping habits are pretty fvcked. What about you guys?

I'd say I'm pulling in about 8 hours a night. Might go up 9 or 10 if I had a heavy workout the day before. How old are you? Through high school I knew a lot of people that could easily pull 11 or 12 hours a night if they didn't have to wake up for anything the next morning.

I normally do about 6-6.5 during the week and 8-9 Sunday morning / afternoon, as a result of staying up much later on Saturday night. I never use the alarm on Sunday so it's really just a result of how tired I may feel at the time.

Why do you ask?

I'm 18, freshman in college.

I asked because I can. Lol, I dunno, do I need a reason to ask? Just wondering, I guess.

The ammount of hours you need to sleep varies depending on; genetics; whether you inject alcohol, smoke, or caffine; quality of sleep; and your circadium rythm. But you should follow this general rule... You should wake up feeling relativly refreshed, and you should not feel sleepy during the day. If this is not the case, you may not be getting enough sleep or you may have a sleep disorder.

I sleep 4-5 hours a night. Unless I'm doing some heavy drinking, then I sleep 5-7 hours. When I was 18 or so I'd sleep for 10 hours, but nowdays working 2 jobs regularly and still maintaining a busy social life, I don't have time for much more.

WOW.guess i am missing out.If i'm lucky,i get 5 hours.I work 2 jobs, one is from eather 7am-3pm or 3pm-11pm,and the other is whenever the boss calls to whenever i get finished.lately,i dont get home till 2:00 or 3:00 am,and have to be at school by 8:00am,most of the teachers know what my work hours are,and let me nap in class, and give me the homework and notes when the bell rings. The worst part about it,though,is hen i have to work till 6 or 7:00 am,and am on the road most of the night, but my folks let me call in sick, and sleep that day.

Any tips on getting more restful sleep?I could definitly use them.

During High School, I usually went to bed at around 11 pm and woke up at 7 am with the help of an alarm clock. Since I started college, I've been going to bed at around 1:30 am and waking up at 7 am, then falling asleep a couple of minutes later and waking up again (without alarm clock) at 9:30 am.

I think 8 hours is what I usually need, since I don't feel sleepy during the day and I don't even drink coffee.

I'm one of those who need a lot of sleep to be happy.

Naturally, without any external time constraint like work or classes, I'm in my best shape with 10 to 11 hours of sleep everyday, basically my average daily sleeping time during vacations.

However when I have a job, it's mostly 7 to 8 hours a day. Below 7 hours, I will clearly feel that I'm not in my best shape.

I have a great deal of control over my schedule, so I rarely need to set an alarm in the morning. Usually it averages out close to 8 or 9 hours, including daytime naps. My brain's a serotonin machine. Rarely have trouble getting to sleep.

BTW, if you do have trouble sleeping, eat a protein/carb meal (something like nut butter and crackers) and take some B-complex vitamins and vitamin C. These are the precursors of serotonin, which is a brain chemical that's important for good sleep and good moods. If that doesn't help, you've got some serious biochemical issues.
