I'm a thirty year old 5'"10 175 lbs man. My body I would consider average/skinny with a pretty big beergut that I would like to lose completely.

However, I want to bulk up as well.

Anyone have a suggestion how to achive this?

Should I bulk first, then lose the gut?

I don't want to lose the fat I already have on the rest of my body,(which isn't much) cause I want to muscle that up.

Anyone been through or going through this?

Get your body fat % to a decent level, then begin to bulk up.

Pick some kind of cardiovascular exercise like running or swimming, where you can keep your heart rate consistent and where you work at about 80% of your maximum level for between 30-50 minutes, 3-5 times a week. Watch your diet... how many calories you eat, and what you eat.

The most important thing is that you are consistent. If you skip exercising too much, your work will have no effect.

Once you are down to a good weight/body fat %, do research on bulking up. Read information from a lot of sources, then combining that with hitting the gym, you should be able to form conclusions about how to create a pretty solid workout.

Also, fat cannot be converted to muscle, so there is no reason to keep more than your body needs to comfortably survive.

There should be a default answer for the most common question : How do I lose fat here or there.

Default answer: You cannot spot reduce a specific location. The only way to lose fat is through cardio and a change in diet (low fat food.)

eat less, move more... seriously.

Weight train 3-4 times a week, do some cardion, drink less and eat cleaner.

The beer gut WILL go.

Check out www.wannabebig.com and www.wannabigforums.com. some good information there....

If you have any further specific questions about routines and diet, just shoot...

I had a post answering all these repetitive questions, but the wise old powers-that-be unstickied it. Now we have to deal with these questions again.

depends
If you havent been lifting much previously, its possible to gain some muscle while losing a lot of fat, you must simply clean up your diet, begin eating nice and clean (you can go all out on meat and brown rice mmk ?) and just workout HARD 4 times a week with cardio for 2 of the days between. And make sure you get enough sleep. read around for more info, then post for more specified info with some details about yourself. Try doing something first.

I disagree. This is a typical bodybuilding myth where you have bulking/cutting cycles.

For a beginner, it will be fairly easy to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. Muscle gain increases fat loss, and the leaner you become the easier it is to stay that way.

I'd do low rep work, less than 6 in the weight room and then have a solid running plan.

I would like to correct myself. What I posted above is a general idea for what you should do to become physically fit, not to lose fat.

To lose fat, pick a cardiovascular exercise, but it doesn't have to be continuous. Exercise for 45+ minutes, 5 times a week if possible.
