Hooking an MP3 Player up to Car CD Player

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble with this. I was under the impression that you can hook a line in cable from the mp3 player to the aux port on the face of your car's cd player. I did this and both ends fit perfectly like it is the correct spot for them. Howver, I turned on the CD player and mp3 player and don't hear anything. There's 3 options when I hit the source button on the face of the cd player. FM, CD, or Aux. I put it on AUX expecting to listen to my mp3 player.

What am I doing wrong?

Please help.

It should work, it's been done here with phone mp3 players. Perhaps the cable is bad, check it by hooking into your notebook's or PC's Mic input and turning on MP3 player. You should then be able to record music in sound recorder.

It could be bad connection. Try to wiggle jack at both ends.

I'm dreaming of top of the line boss single din in-dash dvd with flipout panel, two boston accoustic woofers, amp and cap. But probably will just get a bazooka, cuz in my car there's not much space. Tell me, do you need an amp to run front speakers and tweeters?

I can't believe I almost bought a car stereo a couple of months ago without one. I would be kicking myself now for sure.

Let me correct you both.

USB port might be a must. But firstly those come in many different sizes. You want the one into which you can insert a flash drive.

Secondly, with a USB player you MUST have a flip out display. Otherwise music selection will be hit and miss.

I don't want to suggest the obvious, but it's worth a try...

Raise the volume on your MP3 player and then on your CD player.

I would think putting the CD player on "Aux" would be correct.

Otherwise, check the cable as backseatjuan suggested.

The line-in cable is brand new so it should work.

I don't get why it isn't working. I hit the source button on the face of the cd player to "aux". I have both volumes turned up. I know it's the right cable because both ends fit perfectly. Any other ideas??

The input on your stereo face might be broke. i know on mine, only one side comes through the aux port. If this is the case, maybe see if you can get a new face, or buy a new stereo.

Let's hold on with new stereo. Use your phone and cable to connect it to your notebook or pc's or mac's mic input. That's step 1.

step 2. start > all programs > sound recorder (or something like that)

step 3. turn on music on your phone.

step 4. hit record on your sound recorder.

step 5. hit stop on your sound recorder and play back what you recorded.

Does it record music? If yes your cable is good and your phone is sending the sound through the cable.

If no, cable is bad and/or your phone is not sending seound through the cable.

I used the same cable to hook up my ipod to my computer. I opened up sound recorder as you said and played music on my ipod and recorded it. I tried to play it back in WMP and it played but no sound. I thought for sure I had the right line in cable.

Can someone please direct me to the correct cable (maybe on Amazon.com?) I should be using to connect my mp3 player to a car cd player? It'd be greatly appreciated.

Ok, picked up the right cable today at the mall and it works great. Thanks for the help.
