i need to do as many pushups and situps as possible in two minutes. its part of the army pt test. and i was ust thinking, since that is an endurance thing and not a strangth thing as much, could you do a sort of hiit training method with both pushups and situps. like do burnouts for 15 seconds and the regular rate for 15. would this be better then just doing a whole bunch of pushups?

Between the Goalposts
decline push-ups
place feet on chair, do push-ups until tired. 3 times a day

i used this to improve my push-ups from 25/min to 70/min.

sit ups: 43 is the passing mark, yes?

Ok, here goes;
Sittups- just do it twice as slow... by doing that ur excerting more power and putting more effort onto the muscles... the slower you do it the harder it gets... bend ur knees (like ud ussually do), cross ur hands over ur chest, and dont forget; if u dont want a stiff neck by the age of 25... then the trick is always to look at the sealing... trust me... ;) rotate the positioning of ur legs so that you could work on other parts of ur abs...

Pushups- Correspondingly, do it slow for a better effect... and if u wanna change the resistence just move the positioning of ur hands... the closer they are to eachother, the harder it is... no need to place ur feet on a chair... it wont make much of a difference... and, nevertheless, its not good for u as the blood flows up to ur head which may result in a migrain...

You wanna build muscles as quick as possible..? gain strength...? eat 30g of protein b4 each workout...(eggs, fish, meat, shakes, etc...). Likewise, you could also use amino acid pills... amino acid is essential in building and repairing muscle tissues... im not gonna get into all this crap now coz i dont have time... most of what i said is probably obvious, but i thought it wouldnt hurt reminding u...

Cya later muscle boy... :D

Lt Dan,

Where are you stationed at? I'm in Hawaii right now at Tripler Army Medical Center. Got a lucky assignment. I'm a 91W (Combat Medic)

As far as maxing the PT test for push-ups I can do it pretty easily. I'm 19 so I only need 71 to max. I usually knock out 45 in the first 50 seconds then rest for 10 seconds and then do like 10 and then rest and another few sets of 5.

Any advice on maxing those sit-ups? I usually finish with around 70 and my run is around 14:00 but will improve.

Take care

I saw the screen name and figured you were already in. ROTC and the officer route is DEFINITELY the way to go if you plan on making a career out of the Military. I'm considering finishing up my time and getting out to finish me Bachelor's and then re-enlisting as an Officer. Depends though

Good Luck!

Yes u do, sorry.
You drink/eat protein b4 and after... half an hour the difference....
Why b4, why after?
before- so that the amino acids that are broken down by the protein will create new muscle tissues..
After- after you work out, your muscles are obviously damaged... and, one of the functions of protein is to repair muscle tissue... ergo, have protein half an hour after in order to repair the muscle that was damaged during the workout... ;)
