Just wondering for best results is a high calorie intake and high calorie burnage the best for results? It just made me wonder when I read the story of Michael Phelphs taking in 12,000 calories a day in which he burns off in his workouts and he has a very lean and cut body.

Sometimes I think that I won't go for a run I will just eat less that day but so would it be better to do that cardio and eat more?

this is a term dubbed "g flux" by Dr. Beradi, and it has been found that people who train at a higher g flux in fact look better, but the same principles still apply.
Calories in > Calories Out = Weight Gain
Calories out > Calories In = Weight Loss

Yeah it's called the g flux method, so to speak.

Train twice a day, eat a lot of good food, exercise a lot in general, and you will be amazing at life.

Bodybuilders don't need the calories of Olympic swimmers.

Think of the calories Phelps simply burns from being the water 4 hours a day.
THEN add what he uses when hes swimming for those 4 hours.

THEN add recovery calories.
THEN add growth calories.

phelps and lochte don't eat clean at all.
they just cram as much food into their body as possible.
during the olympics, lochte (who is only a tick slower than phelps in the IM) ate mcdonalds 3X a day basically everyday.
and phelps was on a pasta+pizza diet.
and their intake is closer to 8000

That article about Phelps reall opened my eyes. I thought that only way to have around 6% meant you had to eat really, really clean.

12,000 calories in one day? I seriously doubt that.

But when I wasn't working for a few weeks about all I did was work out (approx 3hrs/day in the gym total 5x/week), and eat like a horse. The results were very good indeed.

For those of you who say its very doubtful that he takes in 12,000 calories, did you even read the article in the linK?
