Ok cliff noting this:

I have previously bartended (hence the name) at a night club. Quick/Slinging drink atmosphere.

No longer work there.

Interviewing at the highest class establishment in the area. The only triple diamond winner w/e. You get the point. Bills for food go over $100 if you buy more than a salad type of place.

So, first interview this wendesday. I gotta learn some wine stuff, some old ppl drinks (i'll take care of this), and what not before the interview.

Anyone have any suggestions? Probably going to wear a suit since the place requires coats for men. Really dont have that much interview experience. Things have really just fallen in my lap work-wise.

Run to the bookstore this weekend and skim through the book "Knock 'em Dead" by Martin Yates.

Be ready to answer some weird questions of all kinds:
what would do if...<insert a big trouble here>?
How would you resolve this.<..>?
What's your weak side?
What was you biggest mistake at work?
Etc
Be ready to answer them with somethig positive, don't admit
anything negative.

For some interviews it might be very heplful to learn as much as possible about the company. Did you actually go there? (yeah order something less than a salad then) Observe how they work.. what they do.. and what they don't.
Lear the history of the place and be ready to insert some comment about it - you will stand out from others.

Also they might ask... so, why do you choose <us>? Ideally you are supposed to give them not only "..... to apply my skills and to benefit...blah blah" but also give them some specific regarding why they need your skills, why you skills mathes their requirements.

Have you ever taken a personaluty test? They are easy, but still to have to do well. Be ready to write down a bunch of silly questions like "You feel talking small items from work can be acceptabe Yes\No"

al77 - great info thanks. But i think on the testing part...its discriminatory to do personality test on applicants unless an offer to work has been hired. Anywho, i'd take one if they asked. Not like I am gonna sue and have no chance at getting the job.

Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.

You mean it is ok to do personality test after you are hired (or they agreed to hire you)?

I have a friend who has done like 80 of such tests. When he was looking for a job in most interviews he had, he had to take the personality test. I have no idea what they are thinking...I am not familiar with "legal" part of this test.

This is how I interpret my "Employment Law" book on the subject:

Screening tests like such should never have any questions which even hint towards seperating out a certain group of ppl (an example my book uses is questioning on religious beliefs or even cultural values.) Someones answer might show a certain affiliation which, if hired for or against, is considered discrimination.

So in short, personality tests need to be extremely careful because courts have awarded for tests which are reasonably "inappropriate".

I double checked - my friend seem an expert on those tests - he took more than 100 and he said he took almost all of them on the very first interview. Just be ready to take the test! I.e. browse through a book that cover how to take them.
